Ask Movie Slate - Shark Week - Shark Attack 3: Megalodon

Commissioned by

This one was a bit of a faff to come up with. The original idea was to follow the example established by the movie, and use the stock footage of sharks to then copy-paste Movie Slate on it, in the same sloppy amateurish fashion that this movie did. I refused to step down to such low standards, plus doing such a thing would make the picture an eye sore. So I picked a shot from the movie and recreated it in Photoshop with better definition, plus being able to see the brush strokes makes the picture feel a bit more organic. The idea of having Movie Slate use the Photoshop menu to edit out the shark came out later on as I was finishing the drawing. I thought it would be funny to see Movie trying to get out of the situation by simply editing out the problem. Then again, in order to do that we'd require a way to go back in time, and prevent this movie from being made.

"Shark Attack 3: Megalodon " is a piece of shit. There's no other way to put it, really, and I honestly don't even know where to start. The acting is atrocious, even for this type of movie. It's so bad I bet these aren't real human beings, but incredibly advanced automatons that have learned about human emotion by marathoning all of the Rankin/Bass movies. The story is impossible to get into, and makes absolute zero sense, since it's impossible to engage with anything or anyone that's in it. The sound mixing is beyond amateurish. It's like the filmmakers were making a bet to see who'd be the most incompetent at balancing the audio levels on this pile of manure. The voices always go one or two seconds before any of the characters opens their mouths, and the sound effects are repetitive and most likely taken from a free sound gallery website. And of course, the constant use of stock footage of sharks with the people edited over them to make it look like they're being attacked. You'd think that makes it almost worth checking out, but it isn't.

It's garbage. It's an hour and a half of your life you're never getting back. I rate it:

I hope you guys enjoy the picture!

Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate and every single one I receive.

Thank you!

lol with a movie this bad, how did it even get one shark ?Β Β  I find it hard to believe that a production team would let its film go out with such a horrible job on the sound.Β  My family have created our own short films ( for competitions and just fun projects )Β  and from the sound of what this movie is like, we did a better job editing with our home computer.

haha if your ever bored, maybe I can convince my family to send you a few of our short films.

I believe you, any amateur would be able to make a much better job than any of these jagoffs.

I remember that film. It was okay when I watched it as a kid. The shark scenes were quite creative, I might add...

You mean the scenes where the sharks are taken straight from stock footage?

So much for the "relaxation." That lasted a whole one post. Just better be sure you're on the right layer and not just end up removing a colour layer or something. Or forgetting you have a shark on the editing table and inadvertently pressing Ctrl+V to end up right back in the same situation.

I'm not watching this movie.

If anything, the fact this movie got made should be inspiration for anyone who wants to get into film making - if this got made, you can get your idea made, and you can do it much better than this!

Clever little bit of doing the PhotoShop tools in the scene, because I'm pretty sure that's exactly how they did it.

I guess it is true, you can see this as a way to motivate yourself to make better things than this total mess.

That's bizzare,
The 'cut shark' shortcut on my computer is up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.

Srsbsns, I love shark week. Though that movie isn't quite the top of the list when I want to celebrate the themed week, its worth a good cheap laugh.

Weird, that shortcut gives me thirty extra steps on my history.

I think I'm not doing one next year. Shark Week ain't what it used to be.
