Description
Diana is a 330 meter Starship commissioned by the Greater Earth Alliance in 2163. She is an exploration and first contact vehicle. She has a fully sentient and independent mind. Her UFO like abilities include trans warp drive, antigravity and dephasing (think of this as the ghost like ability to pass through mountains or allow asteroids, projectiles or energy to pass through her without interaction).
Imagine a post-scarcity future in which money, work, war, hunger and poverty don't exist and in which people are truly free. An uncountably vast number of technologically and spiritually advanced Starfaring civilizations throughout the universe have already achieved this level of existence and so shall we.

A "General Contact Vehicle" sounds like it's from "The Culture" series by Iain Banks. But they would have much more...improbable...names. Something like No One Here By That Name, or Maybe, But I'd Have To Check, or No More Mr. Nice Guy. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…

Diana....
Beautiful - just like this
Its elegance is in its simplicity....

I wish it hurry up!!

I really like your spaceship designs!
They are refreshinly different to most ppls blying black bricks with guns.

Thanks! I'm really glad you like my designs, and I agree with you; so many sci-fi Starship concepts these days look like gigantic weaponized household appliances or engine parts 😄

Absolutely!
Even worse, many just look like a big machine gun in space.
...and the worst ones are actually big flying planet ripping guns. .
How unimaginative and boring is that?
Do you think that's the same phenomena that makes ppl. buy those rediculus, oversized and bloated looking SUVs?

AI is going to be another issue altogether, one that might be approaching faster than we are prepared for culturally (not that I really know how close we are to creating the first).
Having an AI completely in control of a vessel that I assume is perfectly capable of defending itself, probably from ships of greater tonnage than herself, due to there no doubt being races that are hostile or with their own agenda (namely the Reptilians) is something that I see as highly controversial by today's standards.
Let me just put it this way: the idea that she might just kill life support shouldn't be a valid concern.
Aesthetically, I think the con tower sticks out like a sore thumb, and would probably be unnecessary, unless technology doesn't advance so fast that FTL communications requires such large antennas by the era she is set in. Though maybe that is just my own design aesthetic, where I like sleeker ships, and dislike anything that makes them look top-heavy. I see any observation towers as sealing flush with the hull when not in use.

Thanks, you make some interesting points. I always enjoy your though provoking messages. My premise is that the Universe is 98.9% friendly and the 1.01% who are unfriendly or hostile are pretty much self limited in their technological evolution. There are plenty of dark sci-fi and real life situations. I think we have to worry more about our fellow humans than Reptilians or evil grays.
i just want to project a bright exciting adventurous and peaceful vision of future human space exploration and ET contact. There is so much darkness in sci-fi these days, even the Star Trek franchise has succumb to the dark future scenario. Their spaceships are way too militarized and the stories way to concerned with war strategy etc.
I agree that AI could be a big problem, but in my future world view everything is cool. I remember all the sky is falling hype surrounding the millennium bug back in the late 90's. I think we will look back at this period from 50 years in the future and laugh at the hysteria and paranoia surrounding AI.
Also I take your point about the observation towers and it looking top heavy. In my design it is a plug in science module. It can be swapped out for various other modules (a bit like R2D2 and other droids which plug into the space fighters). But I will probably post a new version with the module removed in the near future.
thanks again for your comments.

I prefer a sort of cautious optimism about things. Hopefully, AI will be everything that we hope it will be, and we will teach them the best of ourselves, and not the worst, but I do think we do need to not rush into it.
The fact that none of the hostile races have destroyed or conquered us (even though they should be able to have done so without us being able to put up much of a fair fight) is probably promising, and I'm guessing the other friendlier races have them on a tight leash. We can only guess what the interstellar political dynamics must be like.
I wouldn't say that Star Trek has succumbed to a dystopian vision, though it has explored the darkness that weaponized technology has brought. And you might not agree with starships that are armed and capable of defending themselves and others, but we don't know what is waiting out there in the darkness. But you'd probably point out the Enterprise was pretty well armed in Beyond, and still got shredded to pieces! It took loud rock and roll music to take down the swarm of fighters!
For modules, you might want to consider that technology will get advanced enough to the point they can take on many different shapes, if not in the 22nd Century. Scientific modules in the shape of a crescent like the Nebula class for example.
But you'll have to decide for your designs how fast technology will advance to the point where prioritizing aesthetics won't affect performance or resources.
At the very least, I do see a possible design evolution once technology and architecture evolves enough. Speaking of which, I see the fleet evolving from the current cigar-shaped Highlanders that are supposed to compose of the secret space fleet.

I agree with your cautious optimism with regard to AI. I was encouraged by the call from IT leaders such as Elon Musk for the total ban on killer robots.
As far as hostile ET races go, I like to think that Benevolent forces while allowing the inevitable shenanigans associated with evolving technological species will however intervene and prevent anyone from actually destroying the playground (UFOs shutting down nuclear missile bases in the Soviet Union and the United States in the sixties may be an example of this).
I think it is a reasonable precaution to carry concealed weaponory when Earth created starships finally do venture out of cradle earth. But I seriously doubt we will ever need it.
By the way, I have deleted the con tower and made a more sleek profile.

I never heard of Elon Musk calling for the ban of killer robots, but hopefully, all governments heeds his warning. I used to think killer robots would be a good thing, since it would mean that it would make the reinstatement of the draft unnecessary. Now I think it's just better to try to avoid bloodshed entirely, and for the peoples of the different countries to try to find ways to work things out (and remove leaders who refuse to). AIs shouldn't learn that killing is okay, and we need to stop ourselves. Say what you want to say about the apes of the Planet of the Apes series, but we'd be much better off if we followed our own "ape shall not kill ape" law with as much vigor as they do.
I think that she looks much better without the con tower. I'd suggest recycling it for a starbase. I actually have this idea of an artificial ring (much like in Gundam 00 and orbiting Kuat in Star Wars. There was also one orbiting Luna in the Starship Troopers motion picture), where ships dock, and defensive weapon emplacements that hopefully never have to be used, while space elevators lead down to the surface (unfortunately, I've never heard of anything that leads me to believe that transporters are part of the technology invented by any of the extraterrestrial races). Of course, I don't feel anywhere near comfortable enough that I feel I could pull off something of that scale.
I too prefer the notion of concealed weaponry that lies flush with the hull. Not only does it look cool aesthetically, but it also causes starships to look less threatening. And hopefully, they will remain ready to fire, but never have to.

Assuming this ship is autonomous, would it operate normally without any crew?
Nice Star Trek references by the way.

Thanks, if it chose not to have a crew, it would be free to do what it likes. It's mind is a small UFO-like disc which can travel independently of the ship, much like any crew member. It can manipulate space, matter and time with fields much like we use tools or hands and fingers. I use Iain Banks (Culture series novel's) idea of ships and ship minds.

A sweet looking model and a beautiful vision for the future! I really like your term "post-scarcity future" because scarcity is precisely the mindset most of us are in. As a species, we still have some maturing and growing pains to endure but yours is my dream for the future, as well. We have always been and still very much are capable of being the ideal version of us. Thank you for sharing your vision!
