Awesome! & it's even more awesome because you did it in 2.5 hours lol. Wish I could manage that! lol

May I offer a suggestion? On the super dark parts charcoal pencils (I use the General brand) on top of 2b or 4b blends perfectly & doesn't leave white spots. It also takes away the shine that a 6b, 7b, & 8b leaves . I use to use those, but I got the charcoal tip from JD Hillberry lol.

These were done with 6b: [link]

These ones I used charcoal for the dark spots from the big parts to the little lines: [link]

Hope I helped a little

thanks for the appreciation.

I have the J D Hillberry book - Drawing Realistic Textures In Pencil. I didn't look at it much though. In that it says that since graphite is slick, one should apply charcoal first and then graphite. Is that what you meant or am i not getting something?
Btw, Staedtler Mars Lumograph's 7B and 8B graphite pencils are not shiny. They look more like charcoal. I guess they add soot or something to those grades. In the drawing i used 8b for the darkest areas of the cap. But i didn't add enough layers, hence the white spots.
I tried using charcoal in the past. But i found it a little harder to use than graphite. I'll have to practice more with charcoal to get accustomed to it.
thanks for the suggestion btw.

Your drawings are really good. Maybe i manage to finish my drawings faster because i don't put as much effort as you apparently do in your drawings (and your drawings are better).
You can render hair very well. I have yet to learn that. Hair is hard for me.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to comment.

lol Thanks! I always put graphite down than add charcoal over it. It actually blends perfectly. That's what I did in all my drawings. I'm going to try those pencils you mentioned though lol. I only go as high as 4B because the pencils I use (General & Derwent) make the drawing much too shiny.
