REDESIGNING TRANSFORMERS IS REALLY FUN!!!!

Its been a while since I've done one of these. Soundwave has been hanging around my sketchbooks in pieces and now he's all together.

I wanted to do something special for Soundwave. He and I have been through a lot. Soundwave is actually my 60gig external Lacie harddrive. His chestplate is a sticker and his name is Soundwave and everyone knows him and calls him by name. Its actually a lot of fun. I lost the drive once and all my friends and even my teacher were like "Oh no! Not Soundwave! We must find him!" I found him in DTS and when I brought him back to the lab he got a standing ovation.

But yeah... Soundwave has always been the Decepticon swiss-army-knife. Sure he transformed into a tape deck but he was good for anything! Megatron would be lost without him, and even though his alt mode was useless in battle, he still held his own in any situation. Plus he's got all his little cassettes that he's so cute with. I really like Soundwave.

Personally I'm in agreement with the Michael Bay team that the idea of a giant robot transforming into a hand-sized audio recorder is a little dumb, so my Soundwave is a Blackhawk Helicopter... or at least loosely based on one. I chose a helicopter because Blackout was originally supposed to be Soundwave when Transformers2007 came out, but someone alone the line (Hasbro I think) said they wouldn't let Soundwave be anything but a tape deck, so they changed his name to Blackout to try and encorporate the sound-wave attack that blew out the glass in Qatar. Also he was storing Scorponok on his back which is a very Soundwave type action eh?

Trivia for this design, his chest plate protects a series of parts that he can assemble at will into any form of media device input or output. Most of the armor is pushed to the outside of his body and his chest cavity is actually hollow for storing his compacted cassetticons who now are not neccessarily cassettes but I haven't redesigned them yet so we'll see what they are when their time comes.

I love you Soundwave. I hope I made you hot enough for the tank you are.
