I like the thought of it being Toby, that is a creepy thought and an interesting take on it. You're not the first to mention that either. I didn't intend on it being Toby though, Brian Froud's original concept art for this goblin had striped clothes ([link] ) I wanted to stay close to the original character design, and incorporate the movie design and my own touches as well. I've just always pictured the goblins wearing stripes too. Stripes are kind of a stand out "LABYRINTH look/feel" to me, probably because of Mr. Froud's concept art.
