Description Above - A panel that was taken directly from Great Briton's answer to America's Archie Sonic comic series, Sonic the Comic.

Below - A re-done version of said panel, complete with revamped design to fit the modern ages, and slightly changed speech.

Now I personally like Sonic the Comic, and a several people out there claim that it is far superior to Archie's comic series, mostly because it uses more reference from the Genesis Sonic games than Archie's ever done, those including but not limited to,

7 straight up Chaos Emeralds whereas the Archie Comics just brings down a bazillion green jewels and calls them Chaos Emeralds

Sign Posts which, in this comic, transport Sonic from one place to another

Many of the game's zones make an appearance, such as Emerald Hill and Carnival Night.

And the Special Zone, which here is more than the game found in Sonic 2, but an alternate universe in itself.

Other things I liked about the comic personally, was the very detailed artwork (at least long after the comic started), character lines were hardly ever cheesy or lame, and the plots themselves weren't bad either.

Not to mention, they had the honors of using Dr. Robotnik's design from AoStH. Though this wasn't until after the Casino Night plot. Otherwise he was more or less designed like he was in the American artworks of his game design.

Now with the positives, it also had it's negatives IMO. Once again, Sonic is a lead member of a group of Freedom Fighters, this time comprising of himself, Tails, two characters based on the Animals buddies named Johnny Lightfoot ( Pocky) and Porker Lewis (Picky), and last but not least, Amy Rose. YEP, Amy flippin' Rose, #1 Sonic fangirl, was a member of the Freedom Fighters early in the comic's lifespan. Now I like the characters as they're portrayed, but I still can't shake how Sonic has to be restricted as a Freedom Fighter again. Thankfully he wasn't nearly as restricted to his zones than he was in the Archie comics.

Also, despite it's time of publication and all, it bothered me that the comic did put a more forward view on mocking a rival company's creation. Perfect example in 3 words =

Super - MARXIO - Brothers

That's right, they literally took two names, the Marx Brothers and the Mario Brothers, and formed them all to make 3 "electricians" who worked for Dr. Robotnik in order to help with his total dominance of Mobius and stop Sonic. Now I won't lie, it's funny, but kinda brash, especially in one strip where Sonic is actually playing a game based on the Marxio Brothers, and calling it lame. xP

Another minor complaint is probably Sonic's actual personality, which to me is a mixed bag. It can work at times, but more times than not, he's an absolute dick, even to his friends. Also, I noticed that he was more serious toned than both his game and Archie counterparts. While it's not all bad, it doesn't seem all like Sonic to me. Thankfully he does possess some of his cocky attitude from the games, so it's sorta fine.

My LEAST favorite aspect about Sonic the Comic thus far, ironically has to do with the artwork. It's not about it's quality at all, or else I'd sound like a major hypocrite. It's more about the artist's choice of displaying emotions into the characters.

What do I mean? Well take a look at the panel up top. What happened here is that Robotnik had already launched the Death Egg and started to terrorize the citizens of the Emerald Hill Zone. In an attempt to stop him, Tails tried to fly up to the Death Egg, only to get vaporized by a huge blast by said Death Egg, ultimately killing him.

. . . yep, you heard me right. Robotnik, killed Tails.

Sonic was obviously angered by this and attempted to board the Death Egg and deal with Robotnik, but Robotnik was one step ahead and ultimately struck Sonic with the same blast, showing him being burned by the vaporization (or at least his clothing looked like such). Then things go black, and it was revealed that none such events really happened, and it was just a representation put up by Robotnik's assistant, Grimer.

. . . . yahh . . . did you really think Tails was gonna go bye bye? xP

But anyhow, back to the top panel. When Sonic is dashing for Robotnik after he "killed" Tails, look at his expression for a minute or so.

. . . . . .

Does that look like a raged hedgehog ready to tear ol' Egg-Butt to shreds?

. . . . . .

nope, didn't think so. =/

And that's my major quip with Sonic the Comic. More times than not, the cast doesn't display emotions very well, especially those that aren't logically possible not to pull in appropriate situations. and yah, sadly Sonic is the worst victim of this fault, as there are times that the other crew members to a better job. How the artist who did StC failed to manage proper expressions for the most part when Archie's Sonic did a better job of doing such despite it's occasionally cheesy artwork, I will never understand. =/

Archie Sonic - +1

So yah, with that said, I had to recreate this awesome but under-delivered panel from Sonic the Comic. Personally I loved how it turned out, especially in the face and swirly things which are supposed to be his feet at blistering mach speeds. xP

But anyhow, you guys can be the judge of which of the two does better justice. Fleetway's Panel, or MAH panel.

That is all.

Thank you. It just felt like... Sonic was sprouting off something corny instead of real emtion. Yous did have the emtion.

I'll have to go with yours. When I saw the top panel, I seriously thought, "Sonic, could you at least bare your teeth or something?" His expression is just so STALE. Not to mention what he says. "ROBOTNIK, YOU MURDERER! TAILS WAS JUST A KID!" That's not exactly the strongest words that Sonic could use to describe the pain he can feel at the death of his friend, but it passes. Until you reach the next line. "YOU WON'T FIND ME SUCH AN EASY TARGET!" That just reverts what little expression Sonic had to his cocky self, and the emphasis on "ME" says that Sonic is comparing himself to his dead friend, Tails, implying that he wasn't fast enough anyway. A jerk even to his buddy's end. But yours does it justice, along with the improved dialogue. Great job, Captain!

thanks ^_^

that is definitely my least favorite thing about the comic, the staleness of the expressions on most of the characters. it's as though the artist only felt like copying off the box-arts instead of actually "trying". =/

That's what I found in abundance for Sonic the Comic... but I think that Archie Comics' version does a great job on the expressions!

oh wait, scratch the Knuckles Chaotix special. I should've said the 50th issue of StH, which was part 4 of the "End Game" Saga. xP

oh no contest on that buddy! ;D

I think one of my fav issues for displaying emotions thus far, probably has to be the Knuckles Chaotix special, and the Super Sonic V.S. Hyper Knuckles special.

I'd also say a recent issue from like 06 or something where Sonic literally had to put up his dukes to Tails, who was attempting to free his locked up father who revolted against the current King Acorn. Though . . . that's a bit much since that is a more recent issue. xD

I remember that one. Expressions were aplenty.

Your panel is the best. Because of the design style, and the remade lines and stuff, i'd say that you should really work for a comic company, get the rights for a sonic the hedgehog comic, and start making that epic quality that all your works have into this comic.

You smashed that old version down below the ground, both in drawing and in text. Nicely done!
