Description Tor lies buried now,
But the earth can not hold him.
Undead he rises.

I've been working on Tor here for a while on and off. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially the colors. The inks seemed a bit bland to me so I didn't post them and waited to post this full color version.

Plan 9 From Outer Space is one of my favorite movies and I hold a special place in my heart for the Super Swedish Angel.

I tried several new things with this piece and I'm curious to know what you good folks think. You bad folks are welcome to comment too.

Comments and critiques are welcome!

I think Eddie felt more about the movie making process than he thought. He must have loved making movies, otherwise why would he have kept at it, being so miserably inept and all. Thank God he did though! Plan 9 is one of my favorite movies, and never gets old no matter how many times I watch it!

Glad you like it!

Thank you so much for your comments! I wish I could take credit for all this, but the credit must largely go to Eddie for the inspiration, and Tor for his bulk and blank stare.

Plan 9 is one of my favorite movies, and I'm very glad to be able to bring a smile to the face of any other Plan 9 fan.

Feel free to come back and check out my gallery again! I love old monster movies so my gallery is chock full of monster and movie stuff.

Nice dedication piece along with some symbolic 'B-movie' humor mixed in with the background. Icons from our childhood never die.

If you can't pop open a brewsky what's better than a brown paper bag full of fumes. - My head hurts just thinking about that.

Who couldn't love Ed Wood's cheese. Tor Johnson is awesome! He and George "the Animal" Steele are my two favorite simpletons. In reality, they were both very intelligent gentlemen. You've really taken me on a trip down memory lane with your recent images. I grew up on "B" movies of the 50's and 60's. They sure don't make them like they used too.

I've been trying to get my hands on a '78 Don Post Tor Johnson mask for about a year now. I know eventually I'll have it. Then I guess I'll be able to die happy. Boy that's a depressing thought.

I'm really glad my stuff makes you happy. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who finds my drawings enjoyable.

jargonjones In reply to RossRadiation [2007-03-18 03:44:44 +0000 UTC]

Tor definitely had a quality. Did you know he was in an Abbott and Costello movie? The title escapes me now, but I'm sure you can find it on IMDB.com. He played some sort of Arabian strongman.

I just thought it was genius to have George the Animal Steele play him in Ed Wood. If I didn't know better, I'd swear George the Animal was his son -- or his clone!

Thanks for the fav and the kind words, Ross! Maybe I'll have to do a Vampira soon!

I agree with Estallo-en-Impacto, it would have been cool to see a fallen headstone, however the tape is a great touch.

Tor is excellent.

mmm! impressive skills, although the colored lights in the background doesn`t fit that well with the environment....but that`s just my opinion, it is a good looking composition

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jargonjones In reply to khymikaze [2007-03-16 13:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I agree the colored lights don't fit -- but that's on purpose! You see those "UFO" lights throughout Plan 9 from Outer Space and I wanted to put them in my drawing to pump up the "homage to the cheese of Ed Wood" factor. If I've overdone it, it's only following in the grand tradition of Eddie.

jargonjones In reply to fairycthulu [2007-03-16 13:47:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! That's exactly what I was going for. I originally had a different, more sky-like background, but did extra work to make the curtain. It just needed to look like an indoor set.
