My favorite part of this shot will always be the pokemon bucket.
It totally twists the concept of the picture. <3 Love ya, Jark.

It's weird that there's the same bugs in Yokohama as in Mississippi.

indeed, except, like in the movies, they're hella larger here.

They probably came over with the Kudzu.
Weird. *Godzira flashback*

Grasshoppers are indeed cool, and this is a great shot. Looks like he's JUST about to take off somewhere, maybe even to attack YOU. LOL, j/k. Great photo though.

Awesome shot. It's odd how we interpret visual stimuli. A predator lies in wait...

That colouration is beautiful...
but oddly enough, not the strangest I've seen. One time I saw this little guy who was just like any other grasshopper with the exception being that he was zebra striped...
at any rate, he really blends well with the plants...that lucky bug...what great survival skills!

hm.. it's a nice concept, but maybe you want to just zoom in on the grasshopper? the macro-ness of this shot is lost because there's so much chaos surrounding it... like maybe just a vertical frame with nothing but the grasshopper in great detail, and the blurry background. Just a suggestion.
Anyway, good luck with all the da-related stuff that's been going on.. it must be awful, but hang in there, and I hope things work out good for you in the end!

Nice shot of teh grasshopper. I would never be able to take pictures of any bugs because my dog would come and eat it.

I had one of those a couple years ago. One of my sister's friends found it in the late fall and I kept it inside as a pet. They are quite agressive when handled. It chirped loudly and then bit me really hard.
Nice to see you playing around with that camera. Insects make such an awsome subject to photograph That along with flowers.
I think it would be neat if you can take an extreme close-up photo.

I would have screamed and run away rather than grab my camera! Good capture, excellent focus on the green invader.

Awesome shot. Looks like it's getting annoyed at you for daring to spy on her.... ready to pounce.... aim at Jark.... JUMP!
Seriously, though, beautiful shot. Very pretty bug to have caught such a picture of, and large, too!
Have you seen what absolute neat-freaks grasshoppers actually are? I had a pair of them in a jar for a while once, just so I could watch them. Fed them dandelions and chickweed and grass, watched them eat it all up with those odd mouths of theirs.... and preen, preen, preen. It was pretty interesting, watching them sit there and preen like cats do, just about. They'd bring one of their forelegs up to their mouth, lick the sticky toes clean -- they've got two sticky pads on either side of their main hooked toe on each foot, which is how they cling to glass and the like -- and then rub it over themselves, like they didn't think they were ever shiny enough. They'd even pull their hind legs' feet up to lick those and then rub them along their abdomens.
They're one of my favorite bugs.... too bad I only get itty ones here.

Its like...totally a metaphor for..ya know..capitalism n shit. It's like...dude I'm bigger than you and I've got loads of money..but all the little guys are saying - money ain't all that. There's a whole world of things that money can't touch...but the capitalists are all "you're only saying that because you haven't got any" but...it's coz they don't they can see how evil it is..so the capitalists come and just...silence...their critics or make them seem evil by calling them communits..liberals...artists...

I think they're cute... but at the same time... I have this... hate-hate relationship with grass hoppers and locusts. It looks.. evil to me. VERY agressive, and VERY evil.
I love the picture though. he's so bright green, the ones where I'm from are all poopy brown. I didn't think they actually came in that colour in real life.
