What I wonder about this is, why did mkinne write this? Irony? Foresight? Conspiracy? How did HE know jark might be gone? Anyone?

I was just talking to someone about Jark and searched Jark and saw this. It is incredibly ... sickening... What's done is done.. I'll always bear allegiance to the yellow.

you were the original dA mascot right
and got replaced by the fella ?

dango21192 In reply to 95Luther [2011-01-02 01:44:32 +0000 UTC]
technically he was one of the original co-founders, his own persona or whatever you like to call it was a yellow alien and matteo had pugs
and spyed had a ninja
etc fella was a mascot that towards the begining was founded thanks to a contest while jark and thenm were still large, now all jark seems to be remembered for most of the time is his icons like
but this was actually a thing where someone made a journal stating what if we lost jark, and spyed saying why would we, basically the irony is soon after jark was fired even though he was one of the original co-founders

Um......what do you mean probably not. Go look into the past darlin'. You've been here a year; I've been here six. Go have a lurk into what happened between those two join dates
π: 0 β©: 1
SunnyFunshine In reply to miraikazuya [2010-07-07 22:21:51 +0000 UTC]
Probably not means... probably not. I hear a lot of things and I don't remember all of them, I can't imagine that you remember everything you hear either.
There is one little problem with your plan - I'm not a premium member, I can't look at things that happened over a year ago. So why don't you just tell me what happened?
π: 0 β©: 1
miraikazuya In reply to SunnyFunshine [2010-07-07 22:27:54 +0000 UTC]
Alrighty then - Jark used to have a $ by his name, because this is HIS site.
Now he is Β°jark.
What does this tell you? What does this deviation tell you? Have a look at all the other similar deviations. Why is there a sea of yellow?
There is nothing stopping you from looking at deviations from further back than a year ago, surely. I'm not a paid member at the moment either...

DA was a much better place before it got so wrapped up into nothing more but a money hungry site. Shame.

~ jark is the prime rectum that formed the collective. his gas gave it power; his report made it sing; and his shit gave it this delicious smell. and now it hasn't rectum, it has damn near killed us.
the site has lost much of it's appeal, this is why it grows fatter and fatter with no rectum to expel the massive build up of hot air and corporate bloat. it has lost it's soul or 'hole', if you will. things will only get worse... constipated and confused as large bodies without a rectum will surely become.
many of the old guard merely disappeared or lurk, refusing to be flushed. there was a time for greatness and that time has passed. a fine wind that blows without a collective hope, is only a passing breeze.
"we either have mercy - or we have nothing at all" anon.

sorry to kind of move in right here, but so do i.. i was there (on a different account) when this happened originally.. i am STILL pissed that spyed never just quit hiding his side of the story... it makes me sick to know i thought he was such a nice guy when i met him at the summit...but anyways < / tangent >
point is.. even 2 years later.. it's STILL angering

Jark used to be the guy in charge. He was one of the founders and creators of deviantart.
In sense you missed it, Jark was kicked out and replaced by some corperate nutcase. Though I'm not to sure what the deviation is on, as I never fallowed it entirely, thats the jist of it.

mon dieu, we are in 2007. This was written ... 2004.
The time and the events - which most of them i just can presume, since there's an obscure feeling and almost none information (if i'm wrong, TELL) about them... reminded me of Foundation, by Isaac Asimov, that awesome idea of things changing slightly, almost without notice, for decades until the ruin of all.
... Please, explain all of this to me.

Foundation is a good precursor to something like a corporate takeover.

I think there's a phrase, that I've used once or twice elsewhere...
If we do not question what's acceptable...
we have no rights to protest
When the accepted becomes questionable.
The only real trouble is this...
appart from the people who are actually involved in the whole thing, can anyone else from outside be able to peice together what's been said to create such a situation?
The sad fact of the matter is that it just isn't possible to do so, and anyone involved will be biased with their own POV.
It is a pity that this matter came to pass, but I find myself being reminded about a quote from Napoleon...
History is a set of lies agreed upon.
I admire the sentiment and ideology, but I'm also aware that I sit infront of a PC THOUSANDS of miles away, with nothing but a small portal to communcate through...
A bit like a Turin Test - but with more politics involved.
I don't really like grey areas - especially when they concern an on-line community that I enjoy being part of.

I agree with what you said back in 2006, but sitting in front of a computer CAN be a very participatory experience if you're doing the right things.

wow, almost forgot I posted that... thanks for the reminder.
It's true what you said about the net as a whole... we are all user, consumer and content provider all rolled into one...
The sad truth is that the net provides a space where free speech is not just a right... but an integral art of the structure of the net.
The sad part is we have not learned yet to see this and all the implications it generates when thought upon...
Our egos run rampant, as long as we can throw our unsolicited ideas out there for all to see... it's all just dandy!
Often the individual gets so focused on what they WANT... they forget that we could all help in providing what we NEED, the noise of wants exceeds those of need.
I still question things, and do make noise enough to try and be heard over the almost overwhelming volume of "me time" traffic...
the main questions I ask still are:
how am I helping?
If I am not helping, am I merely part of the problem?
If I cease to be part of the problem, does that mean I'm helping...?
and return to first question.

i enjoyed your summation there, as well as comment on egos - so true! allow me to reply to your questions:
> how am I helping?
you're being yourself, and enjoying the content passed to you, that is really the whole point; any purpose you make out of that is your own to use as fuel for personal endeavors
If I am not helping, am I merely part of the problem?
you're helping; thinking you are possibly part of the problem means you're looking at the problem and trying to figure it out; the act of worrying about the problem makes you less and less a part of it as you adjust your own actions in response to viewing more of it
If I cease to be part of the problem, does that mean I'm helping...?
not hurting is a way of helping, imo, make of that what you will

good evaluation of the questions....
in some ways, a human version of Asimov's 3 Laws of Robotics.
They are more of a way of self-evaluation.... which also has parallels with the "this is not the future we ordered" by John Michael Greer.
If we don't apply these self evaluations to ourselves, we fall into the dangerous mindset of accepting that it's okay to be the 'look and click' net user... it's fine not to sign that e-petition, because it's not going to affect us either way... we're not all connected and besides, if it's that important... someone else will do it.
Everyone on the net making us mad and getting us to respond with aggression or hostility is simply a troll to be ignored and not faced up to... same as cyber bullying and other poor reflections of our overall 'progress'.Β

Without even knowing what happened between jark and the rest
of the staff all the discussions make no sense at all.
"Why would we lose jark?"
Good question. But there could be reasons...
There are always two sides of a coin.
But despite all the rant I can deffinately say that if we'd
lose dA it would be one of the biggest losses in the time
of the Internet.
