Description

DREDD 3 Fan script (2015) Genre: Scifi, Action, Adventure. Total runtime 2h 55min (Rated R for violence and gore, strong language).

Premise: After the destruction of Hall of Justice and Judge Death's demise, every scum in Mega City One try to take advantage of the situation. Day of Chaos has began. Things get worse, when enemy of life returns from death and possesses PSI-judge Anderson. Anderson turns against his fellow judges and joins forces with the Dark Judges. They launch a terrifying next plan against the city and escape to the Cursed earth. Dredd is ordered to pursue them and sentence Anderson to death for her criminal actions. Mission forces Dredd to face the hell on earth, himself and demons of his past. He must figure out who he is, is he the ultimate hand of the law, or is he DREDD.

Making of: I was hesitating to make this. Treatment was good for the action parts, but the story was pretty light and many things were left open after it ended. And the biggest problem was the train chase in the end, it wasn't possible to go through the whole North-America and Cursed Earth in 20 minute chase. xD Ending was too happy, so I changed that. I fixed all those in the script and more.

I added two new characters: Judge Cal and Father Earth, and new judge faction from the comics, the SJS (Special Judicial Squad) to give more meat to the story. They fit in the new theme of ”who judges the judges?”. I expanded the ancient egypt theme, making straight parables with that lost civilization, that Cursed Earth is like Ancient Egypt meets wild west. Dark judges are like gods of this new world. Gods of chaos and death. I didn't want the Dark judges to be the only enemy. Story wouldn't be just fighting against these villains, but there would be internal struggle. Every judge has their own vested interest in the mission to hunt Anderson down. I wanted to take deep look in being a judge, what is the law? What is the judge? What can they do? Throw stuff in the wall and see what sticks.

Now that the introduction to most of the characters was done in my Dredd 2, so it was time to expand them. I wanted to flush out more of the partnership between Dredd and Hershey. The mission reveals stuff about each other. Big revelations that challenge their friendship. Hershey does more and is more proactive. Of course the biggest character growth makes Anderson, when she is possessed by Death. She gets the taste of the dark side. She goes through the biggest change and is broken of the whole experience. Working for the justice department has taken and taken from Anderson, not giving anything back. This explains part of the ending, why Anderson takes the long walk. She lost the Chief Judge that believed in her, fellow PSI who loved her, she lost her innocence when Death forced her to kill and work against the law. She punishes himself and takes distance from the city and justice department. Of course Dredd will be the one who sends Anderson to the Cursed Earth, because Dredd let her in, in the first place. That's why Anderson says, it feels like a full circle, and leaves with the promise of return.

Everything from the original treatment to this script has been improved. Action is increased, blood and gore has been increased. I tried to invent as many never before seen action set pieces as I possibly could. Bodycount is like in hundreds of kills, and thousands of off screen kills. It's dark and little bit camp, and it's the final chapter. It ends here.
