With a colony established shortly after the Lunar launch station was built, Mars was the first human attempt with permanent interplanetary colonization and terraforming. Today its first settlement, Elontown, has grown to be a massive metropolis and is the capital of Mars. The economy is principally held up with companies manufacturing weapons, armor, and vehicles. Martians are a practical enterprising people who enjoy many freedoms, such as bearing arms, and have adapted to live in the world's partially terraformed environment. Melting the ice caps and underground rivers have provided some of the planet's water needs, but the atmosphere is still dry and oxygen thin; only breathable after years of adaptation or mechanical assistance.

Orbiting Mars are two natural satellites. Deimos has been converted to be the primary space dock and transportation hub. Phobos houses a laboratory that is rumored to be experimenting with alternate energy and portal technology. It is currently unknown who oversees Phobos, and its secrecy gives rise to many conspiracy theories.

The Solar Army is the globe's largest organization. Its headquarters and board of directors sit in Fort Bradbury at the top of Olympus Mons. Every member nation who needs the SolArm's protection employs a negotiator on the board. All who serve in the Solar Army are trained at the various forts spotting the surface. The harsh atmosphere makes for good training conditions for the warrior elite. There is a popular theory on Mars that the Solar Army uses political influence to prevent the terraforming from completing to keep the ideal training conditions. While no concrete evidence has been presented for this, the common counter to it is likely due to the difficulty of the complex terraforming needs that are unique to Mars. However the economy's reliance on military industry definitely feeds into the conspiracy.
