Description Card art for Magic: the Gathering. One of my faves from the past couple years. Spent way too long on it, which usually happens when a piece turns into a lot of fun.

Man, the art I've seen you and ~One-Vox complete for the new decks is enough to make me dust off my old decks! Beautiful haunting creepy unique stuff you have here! I love the levitating sword halo. I think the attacking soldiers are properly buggered!

8/8 for 6RR, makes all creatures have double strike and have to attack.

Thanks, I certainly enjoy doing Magic cards, so I tend to put a lot of effort into them when I can. The concept of this character is that he's a primordial avatar of war, and he leaves a trail of violence and battle in his wake, which is why he causes everyone to attack each other. It's a great example of how the design guys at Wizards manage to translate a great story concept into a rules mechanic.

Extreme late response: Were those the notes they asked you to convey? I kinda like seeing those given form. They had a few Arcana's since then describing the artistic direction of some cards from commander.

It really is, it's obvious they care a lot about what they do and the phenomenon and universe they've created. The lore is deep and the creatures and characters are truly alive. The avatar of war here is such a great design, like you said, in terms of both story and mechanic, and you really helped to bring it to life.

I can see why.

I can't help but wonder as to the battalions of soldiers around this monolith. Are they cheering its arrival or attacking it??
