Description
Done for new gothic fantasy board game Folklore, from Green Brier Games. I was fortunate enough to create almost all the art for the game. I tried to tell a small story with this one, and really create a sense of massive scale as this is one of the boss creatures in the game.Related content

thanks, I wanted to do something really restrained with the colors here to make it look foggy and believable. I struggled a little on the balancing to get it just right.

I like how the shape of the 'face' almost evokes a Grecian helm

Thanks for noticing, the face shape is always one of the hard parts with designing tree folk. I wanted to do something more original then just a "face-in-bark", and he needed to look like an epic monster, so just a face, even an angry one, didn't seem like it would do him justice. And just an "eye hole" in the face didn't seem like enough to give him identity, so I played around with different shapes until I landed on the "helmet" look. Sometimes art is just making something kind of familiar out of the unfamiliar to create reference and recognizable features.

Good choice, you just have to look once at this guy to know he's no Treebeard reciting bad poetry
