Description
Done for new gothic fantasy board game Folklore, from Green Brier Games. I was fortunate enough to create almost all the art for the game. I tried to tell a small story with this one, and really create a sense of massive scale as this is one of the boss creatures in the game.Related content

The trees in the foreground give a pretty good sense of scale. Β Pretty creepy critter.

I wonder if ancients was the word JRR Tolkien got Ents from. It'd make sense because they were a tree people, and trees are known for their longevity, if all goes well in their care, health etc.

Actually, and you made me wonder that myself so I had to look it up, but Tolkien got the word from old Anglo Saxon, or possibly old Norse, which meant "Giant". Kinda makes sense in retrospect but never could have guessed

Well, it is impressive. I have something similar in mind of my novel, but a lot bigger than that.

thanks! I've painted a few tree folk in my career, and you know, they really don't get easier. They are just one of those fantasy creatures thatΒ are tricky. So when I do work on one of them, I tend to throw a lot of tricks at them to help things along. Like texture, and depth, and detail. And sometimes it works!
