***SPOILER ALERT FOR TODAY’S (US-AIRED) NEW EPISODE***
…Just be glad didn’t give Jasper an ACTUAL axe… that would’ve been WAAAAAAY messier… and more illegal.
Jasper’s actual thought: …Yeeaaahhh, I love you, Applejack, but there is such a thing as being TOO honest. Though I think, in this new age of social justice taking over every little thing, we could all learn something from this episode’s moral – it is perfectly fine to have different opinions… just don’t be a jerk about it. Also yeah, that Rarity guitar solo was both epic and hilarious (And here I thought she only rocked the KEYtar).

Applejack was clearly inexperienced with proper criticism from the very start. At one point she even made fun of somepony's designs, something I don't even remember her doing before.

Just curious, but what are your thoughts on marijuana pizza in states that made it legal? I mean, I'm not certain if these pan-sized things would be good for consumers if they falsify their IDs to obtain it.

Two major issues with this episode. 1 is you just pointed it out. 2 is the whole set up and how Rarity, the judges, and even the 2 female contestants didn't help explain things to AJ. As an artist myself who went to college for an Art Degree (and learned how to critique and take it also), I found it to be very insulting when Rarity said that people in her field aren't always practical when it comes to judging. It came off like artists in general never are. As an artist who does know about critiquing, YOU HAVE to know how to be practical, because the WHOLE purpose of judging someone's work is to point out not only what they did well in (objectively mostly), but how to IMPROVE their work. In the 1st part when we meet the contestants, the judges were mostly subjective. Also Lilly Lace (the Valley girl), pretty much said artistic gunk when explaining her inspiration. No wonder why AJ was confused! Star Streak was the most clear in his vision at least, but Inky Rose didn't say a WORD! You can make her dead pan, but she still has to learn how to explain her stuff! And at the very end it all ends with a tie. What the judges SHOULD have done is talk amongst themselves and come to an agreement on who should have won. I've been in Juried Art Shows myself and sometimes I made it in, other times I didn't make it. Hell this show has seen characters not win.
I will say this though, I did like it when Rarity shredded and when AJ went about correcting her mistakes.

Eh...much as I didn't like Applejack for being too blunt with her opinions, I think Rarity was even more in the wrong in this episode. First, she announced that Applejack would be the final judge before even asking her if she'd be willing? That's not professional. Second, she volunteered Applejack, knowing what her thoughts about fashion are, and kept her on the judging team in spite of her clearly expression her negative opinions. That was confusing, to say the least. And third, when Applejack said that fashion being ridiculous was "just (her) honest opinion", she deliberately brought Applejack to meet Strawberry Sunrise to get "just her honest opinion" about apples to give her a taste of her own medicine? That may have poured a bucket of cold water reality on Applejack, but it was unnecessarily cruel of Rarity to do that.
I'm not saying that either Applejack or Rarity were out of character in this episode...I'm only saying that I feel like Rarity was more in the wrong than Applejack in this episode.
