Well, on the subject of people not liking Jacqui when the game first came out: black female kick-ass gaming characters that you HAVE TO PLAY through are rare. Niobe of the Matrix was a first, but even when that game came out, people complained about having to play "the black girl"... so they created a mod hack to be able to play as Neo. For some other games, especially quest games, a player can adjust the character profile to play as a woman of color. Attracting women of color into gaming is an untapped market really... why buy game boxes when there are no games with you in it as a featured character that would interest you?... There are a lot of middle class, single, black females, who would love to curl up to a good gaming system collection with black female feature characters, but they don't exist in the numbers to warrant buying a gaming system.
For the longest time in gaming, in order to play, you had to play as a white male or a half-naked white female or some personified animal.
Unfortunately, if a black woman were to play this game, as much as they may enjoy Jakeda, they may also be offended by the pervasive Jim Crow-extended subjugated roles to white women all the time. The subjugated black female role thing is trite. MKX put in that almighty secret warrior power thing for a white family under-theme, which is like a scratched CD to American women of color. So is Jacqui going to discover that she's not "just an American soldier" --but level up with some almighty secret warrior power too... no... not likely.
It has only been recent that the baby step of including black women as main gaming characters has been done, like with Resident Evil 5's Sheva Alomar. Even her action figure product line is great. They didn't develop Sheva for RE6 though. When Sheva was introduced, there was also a lot of push-back against her black and beautiful inclusion. Sheva's design looked like the average American brown-skinned collegiate black girl. You can find hundreds of black girls on an HBCU campus that look just like her. It is as if they went through a Miss HBCU photo collection for her design... no joke. These black girls are beautiful and that has always been an uncomfortable truth in media.

Jacqui is the only one who does not have special abilities. There are so many things I did not not like about MKX story-mode's but I discussed it with my followers on my tumblr and its just so much potential I felt like Jacqui truly has. Black girls can't win at anything even if she gets the guy in the end.

True. She's paired with a good looking guy. Media like to pair black women with ugly non-black men, but in real life, it is rare to see a black woman with an ugly guy... so rare. The other way is waaaay more common -- you'll see a black man with an ugly non-black woman often.

I like to call them mediocre because that's what they are. The media believes that attractive BW should not be paired with attractive Black or non-BM; so they settle with the plainest looking guy they can find. Enter Romero Must Die... Jet Li was way older than Aaliyah, but if he was younger and handsome in his prime, then the two would fit. He looked more like a best friend than a love interest imo. In some cases, I have to disagree with that segment you mentioned in your second sentence because there are some pretty/attractive BW who are with pretty low-leveled Average Joes, but the most important thing is that they love them, I guess. BM nowadays are EBB-Everything But Black. So just as long as the woman has "good hair" and light skin with a Black woman body, they'll wife up a mediocre non-BW chick in a heartbeat.

Jacqui is my girl, in story mode she rocked. Got to hook up with the coolest new Kharacter, Takeda Kenshi is amazing. And was the first character I used to win a match and get a fatality. Jacqui right here is getting ready for the next fight and I hope she has many more fights in the next Kombats!

Why is Jacqui getting some hate already? Quite honestly, she's a effective kombatant once you become adept to her. I love her gauntlets, though.

Its simple. She is a black woman that doesn't fit your average stereotypical mold. They say her character design is terrible and she is uninteresting but love the creamed panties of Cassie. I love Cassie too, but Jacqui is not some token character, she is the glue that holds everything together. It shows in story mode.

I may be jumping the gun here, but I don't think, in the history of Mortal Kombat, that there was never a interracial pairing until I saw Jacqui and Takeda together. Quite honestly, their scene together took me by surprise. There are other pairings in MK as well, but the Jacqui and Takeda paring is a love story about to happen. Very legitimate.

I've yet to get the game but I love Jacqui, I've seen her moveset. Its basic but it works o.o Her specials seem like something I can get behind, and once I get the game it will most likely be ps3. I will main the mess outta her. Plus her Tech variation looks dope to. I love to mess around with characters whom can charge and absorb projectiles and use them effectively.
Btw the dragon made me think you gave her a poofy afro in the thumbnail XD. And it just reminds of the trailer where it was either Cassie or SubZero was like "Jacqui, you, bring up the rear"
