Not be a ass, but I thought that it was clear that they were basically telling a story that was both different and yet the same, after all MK9 was basically the retelling of MK1-3 and MKX is the retelling of MK4. It has the same characters with the additions of new ones but thanks to Raiden screwing around with the timeline in MK9 it created this Parallel universe like Back to the Future or the newer Star Trek movies. Sadly, most of these things are explained in the komics, which is BS because why should I buy a comic book issue after issue in order to fully understand the story of the game, but in that they explained that the reason why Sub-Zero was fully human while Jax still had his arms was because Quan Chi is an evil asshole who didn't like the look of Cyber Sub-Zero and just strapped off the metal bits till only his brain remained and regenerated his body while he liked Jax's arms and just made them more demonic.
Also, I don't think Tanya is demented. Demented is more irrational or psychotic, Tanya is just cold-blooded and calculating. And I think characters like Liu and Kitana had human skins even when they were still revenants story-wise was to make it a surprise or at least try to keep people from guessing what was going to happen in the story. Also Jade's ending in MK9 hints that she has a bigger role or destiny in things to come and she does show up in Kitana's MKX ending so my guess is that we will see her in MKXI.

That was clear from WB... MK Team, previously Midway, already knew that MK ended with Armageddon. If it was a true retelling of the MK story, then why did they bring back the rivalry between Sub Zero and Scorpion when they could have worked together and Scorpion could have had his family and clan back? Bi-Han still turned into Noob, Scorpion was still Quan Chi's bitch, and younger Tundra became the New Sub Zero... There are so many hits and misses that I don't want to go into balls deep detail because I need to finish packing my stuff for moving tomorrow. Bottom line is, it sucked...this whole reboot sucks. Whether they're trying to retell a story or nah, MK has never been like that since MK4 where the bad guys actually won...
And Tanya is demented in a way. Check her fuckery in MKD and her encounter with Jade. It doesn't mean she's irrational, it just means she feels the need to back stab everyone without consequences, including her own homeland. Since none of her endings are canon from the old and new TLs, I think its safe to say that Tanya could have redeemed herself and still fought for Edenia's freedom after Mileena's death... Her and Rain could have been unstoppable...he's a god and was betrayed by his own fellow Edenian. That is the part that made me mad because even in a reboot, smart writers know not to bring back old things from previous installments, just bits. Its always about the new. They could have went about this in a different direction. But I do agree with some of your points...however, this reboot still left a nasty taste in some fans' mouths including my own.

Annnnnnd in MKX they agreed to a truce when the truth came out. Hell, Scorpion even became HUMAN, that has never happened. Not too mention that writing and storytelling never were good friends with fighting games but it is till better then most, or at least better then it was in the first time around. Especially since it seems they cut out all the junk characters like Kobra, Kira, Jarek, Mavado, Hsu Hao, Meat, ETC. Not too mention that it is making progress, in MK9 Shao Kahn DIED. Like for real, permadeath. That never happened in the first story. And Now Liu Kang and Kitana are basically the rulers of the Neatherrealm, Raiden is becoming more evil and aggressive and Kotal Kahn and Outworld is the underdog. That's already WAY different then what happened in the original timelines.
I think Tanya's habit of betraying people and being overall untrustworthy is more sociopathic then demented. She's manipulative and traitorous, all that we've seen is that she wants a free Edeina, or at least one free of Outworld. Yet what would happened if Mileena was back on the throne and did what she promised? Because chances are that she would wait for an opportune stabbing-in-the-back moment against Mileena to take the throne of both Edeina AND Outworld or at the very least share both realms with Rain in a sort of joint-kingdom sort of thing. Yet I can still see her gladly sacrificing an ally to extend either her own life or to ensure her own plan succeeding.

In MK it was acceptable until they stopped caring with the initial storyline Shaolin Monks is a good example even though its not canon, but they kinda shitted on MK, II, and 3... Of all games Street Fighter needed A reboot not several installments of the same shit.
Kira was alright...if she wasn't, Mileena would not have copied her fatality from MKD... That was lazy and uninspired from NRS. All those characters from past games could have had better execution, instead the only likable character is Reiko. Kahn is still technically alive living in Ermac in MKX...again lazy and uninspired. Liu Kang and Kitana are dicks and them ruling the Netherrealm means nothing. Even in Jason's ending, he killed Liu Kang the so called ruler of the Underworld. Fail. Kitana...she's just depressing to look at now. Raiden was evil in MKD-MKA...him being evil again is nothing new. Kotal Raisin Bran is a bitch and him ruling Outworld is just another Khan on the throne. If he wanted to be balls deep...he could have taken Earth.
Which one is it? You say she's not this and that but now she's a sociopath? Sure, Tanya was a lot of things, not even ballsy. She just knew who to pick and choose her victims and once she gained their trust, she goes in for the kill. And what would she do with a broken realm like Outworld if she all of a sudden betrayed Mileena...? Outworld and Edenia was once merged we all saw the outcome of that. Even if she ruled both realms, I don't see her as a ruler, only an ambassador. It fits her. Ruler? No.

Well to say someone's demented, it means that they are crazy. Though technically dementia refers to a mental condition that affects how a person thinks or their memory. So things like Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. Tanya is a sociopath, or at least to me, as Sociopaths have a failure to feel remorse or guilt and don't have a capability to feel empathy or form emotional attachments with others. They often have disarming or even charming personalities. Sociopaths are very manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them, and will appear normal to unsuspecting people. Psychopaths are often well educated and hold steady jobs. Some are so good at manipulation and mimicry that they have families and other long-term relationships without those around them ever suspecting their true nature.
To me that sounds like Tanya, she's obvious is charming or capable to make people like Mileena and Rain to trust her but can easily abandon them or turn them in if need be. Granted, she probably won't want to be a ruler, but I can still see her gladly betraying Mileena or Rain if it will allow her to get what she wants. Regardless, I think we can all agree that the story, reboot or not, isn't great. Hell, I can probably come up with better if I tried and I'm not even a professional writer. But it's the story we got and it's honestly not as bad or as confusing as other fighting games. But let's face it, the people who are big fans of those fighting games properly care more about how those game plays as oppose to the story itself. Hell, if I can veg out on my couch and play with my friends either online or in my house for several hours and have fun then that's great! The game did it's job. Even if the story is kinda stupid and could improve quite a bit but oh well, chances are I'm too busy trying to pull of the brutalities.

Dementia does not mean crazy, no matter how well we want the word to mean something else. It seems like something mental is off from her to do this to her own fellow Edenian in MKX... She obviously thought Kotal was going to spare her if she gave up Rain, but instead, he threw her into prison and was going to execute her ass. Her calculating and manipulative skills is off this time around because even she knew that was a bad idea to even do that to Rain who was her most powerful ally. All that other shit, doesn't make up for what she did in MKX. Sorry.
