My December 2010 entry for the monthly challenge at the Cartographer's Guild. I was testing out ways to create various effects and learned a few techniques I hope to use again.Made with Gimp 2.6

To be honest, I was experimenting and each one was done using a slight variation of technique. I did this in Gimp so that puts it back a few years as well. I doubt I could tell you the steps in order at this point.
Mountains were one of the hardest things to get down. I currently work in Photoshop and use a combination of layers and brushes then touch up the peaks by hand.

They have really well done tutorials that will get you started until you can branch off on your own. One of these days I should try making a video but it seems like I work so slowly it would be boring.

Thank you. I have mostly worked on regional and battlemaps prior to this so it was fun to make one so large.
