mah first deviation of 2007whee yippee yohoo...

i just wanted to do a [fancy-ish] glass chess set
Made in Blender 3D rendered with YafRay

2 hours rendertime
10x10 AA
EDIT:
re-rendered te image with lighter lighting (did that make sense?) and in PNG for better quality
the rendertime changed to about 16 hours since it's also a LOT bigger (6k x 4k)

you should do a model of a game of Go. I'm sure i could find you the layout for a game, the pro's games are usually publicized so they're easy to get...

I think it looks very good so far, but arent the chess pieces a bit huge? Maybe its just me, but i think its hard to oversee the image that way, it would look calmer if they were smaller. Lightning effects wouldnt look as nice though i guess

well, it seems the pawns are a tad too big (which i hadn't quite noticed), everything else kinda keeps a more or less real size ratio to the actual chess thingies
but yeh if the paws were smalled you couldn't really see the cool refreaction-in-a-glass-sphere thingy
and chaos (non calmy >.> ) is fun

Wow, this one is, well, simply put... Amazing! I love all of the detail you put into it, on how even the glass pieces have reflections to them, stunning work. I wish I could put this into my presentation, but I don't think the size I could use it with would show how great this one is... Wow, I mean... Just wow.

i love how YafRay can render glass so easily (for the user), you only have to set a couple things (color, reflection, hardness, specularity, transparency) and hit render X3
the hard part is actually modelling the stuff XD

Chinese checkers are the little marbley ones.
Chinese chess is the one with the canon. I'm a big fan of Chinese chess as well.
The chess-pieces in this are nicely done. But the board seemed a bit dull (or maybe that's just me).

western chess i like, but chinese chess i love, it's just lots of fun because the pieces have different movements and the board is different so the strategies vary a lot more

my uncle has one kinda like this too, but the white pieces are transparent and the black pieces are white (sanded/glazed glass(whatever its called, i dun really know))
