Inturpritation of a gothic style unicorn. I hate the new-age kind of unicorns, big white horse with a horn... that's SO a 20th century perversion of the mythology. Unicorns historically represented a lot of things including sodomy, death, distruction, wickedness, and the vices. They weren't always smiles and sunshine.So, in honor of that long and sometimes dark history. Here's a black Uni'. My desperate attempt to break the mental and creative block I've been suffering for the last two weeks.

i like the black version.
i have one that looks abit like this on my shoulder. dark and evil looking.
i wanted to get a white one on my other shoulder. kinda makes me think of ying and yang. two different sides. one for bad and one for good. i dont think theres a right and a wrong? its all about imagination and creation.

Really? They only have the white mystical ones now? In my opinion, everything needs to be ballanced. Imagined creatures included. So, while I must say this one is very lovely and finally at the othe end of te spectrum, we need our white ones as well. Think of it as... The murderer and the police man.

I love the sleek elegance and deathly look to it. And yet it's horn has so much power and danger to it. I also love the pose... Reminds me of a sort of... trapped in a bubble or snow globe look. Well done.

Ah! It is good tht you potray the unicorn the way it was originally described: the body of a horse, the beard of a goat, the tail of a lion,and the cloven hooves of a deer. I thank you for adopting the color black and for not using the horrendously abused color white. Seriously, an apoloosa unicorn would look WAY better than a bland white one.

its ose and body remind me of a xenomorph from the film alien. metalic siney and angry dunno if you think that or not but it was the first thing that crossed my mind. very pretty well done

I quite adore this. When I was little, I believed that unicorns were mystic horses with magic powers that heal the wounded...But now that I've researched them, I like the idea of them being a dangerous mythical being filled with dark wonder. It seems more...natural. I haven't heard of one mythical creature that is "good," let alone a friggin' horse-type thing with a giant horn on its forehead. >_<

True, true, unicorns were originally considered dangerous and untameable wild animals.
Common modern understanding would be quite insulting to them methinks.
I think this perfectly sums up a beautiful and wild creature.
I just love the composition of how it fills up the space and the graceful leaping pose.

Gorgeous! I hate modern unicorns that are simply a horse with a horn on their head! Traditionally they have a lion's tail, goat's beard and cloven hooves, and probably some other stuff too. You've captured a unicorn how I imagine them to be!

I'm really glad you incorporated the cleaved deer hooves, a lot of people forget that unicorns don't have horse hooves. Though I suppose it all depends on how you interpret it.

This unicorn is so beautiful. You can see its airy sort of grace yet you also catch glimpses of its power. The horn itself is long and smooth like a glowing diamond, yet powerfully sharp. An intriguing blend of tempting beauty and danger.

I really like this unicorn because it's kind of like the heraldic unicorns (which came before the "sunshine and rainbows" image).
They were believed to have the body of an antelope a horse's head, lion's tail and legs of a dear, si I think you've kept well to the original idea of the unicorn!

it was about time someone drew unicorns the way i think about them! strong, independent, wild.. and i guess the black unicorn theory suits this one better than the pure white one..
love ur sketch and i hope u take advantage of it and make it an epic deviation. correct the forelegs as one of the commenters suggested, and maybe throw in a background.. textures, lighting.. that is if you know how to do these stuff.. personally, I don't have a clue

I freakin' love it. So much. It's my favorite unicorn picture ever. I hate how everyone is like, "You like unicorns? What a dipwad!!" But only like them hardcore, or gothic.
