Inturpritation of a gothic style unicorn. I hate the new-age kind of unicorns, big white horse with a horn... that's SO a 20th century perversion of the mythology. Unicorns historically represented a lot of things including sodomy, death, distruction, wickedness, and the vices. They weren't always smiles and sunshine.So, in honor of that long and sometimes dark history. Here's a black Uni'. My desperate attempt to break the mental and creative block I've been suffering for the last two weeks.

Am I the only one? Am I? Sometimes when art so so beautiful and so majestic such as this one, tears run down my face. Its just the way I can really explain how this makes me feel. Art is something so deep there aren't any words avaliable for such magic you feel through your eyes that flow into your heart.

I love unicorns and grew up with 'the last unicorn' image in my head. But if there are white ones, there can be gothic ones- you did a nice job on this one

Towards a few comments.. Unicorns aren't sun shine and happiness.. they really can be dark death creatures that came from hell. :3 Haven't you seen any pictures of hell unicorns?
Anyway, I love your dark unicorn picture. And yes, I do agree that unicorns aren't just a large normal horse with a horn stuck on its head. They have many features.. (I know this because I was obsessed with unicorns all my childhood lol). Anyway, great work!

i agree. unicorns should be death, envy, bravery, etc. there are many things to a unicorn more than happy... ESPECIALLY GOTH!!! w00t~

I know I`m late to post on simething that was made in 2004 but I agree
with you. Unicorns were first recorded to look like black mules/donkeys with a split hoof and long tail
and a rainbow horn.

I have always invisioned unicorn as wild a fierce yet beautiful, much like a wolf (IMO) . If your heart was pure enough then maybe they would bless you. thats just what i thought. I also agree that of course they werent are good white little rainbow hoppers, so thank you for this wonderful unicorn.

That is beautiful. I love the composition of the piece, how it all flows so beautifully. I actually didn't know about the darker side of unicorn mythology... I'll have to read up ^^ but honestly, that is insanely good.

uhm .. White Unicorns as horse looking beings are not really New Age or 20th Century but the idea of them as being fluffy and sweet all the time might be The whole Unicorn being tamed by a virgin thing was, after all, to use the girl as bait so that they could kill the beast and it was only, allegedly, tame as long as it was with the virgin and then, apparently, because it wanted to shag her and then kill her. But in the paintings about it all, Unicorns were often represented as white horses with horns.
In fact, the real ones - that don't have all the mythical powers mind you - are cross breed of goat and horse and there used to be a book that told you how to do it. It was seized by the government when someone tried it, back in the late 60's or early 70's. They showed the Unicorn on television on a show called 'Real People' It was white, it was horse like, it did have a horn in the middle of it's head, but it was smaller than most horses and also a little goat like - had a beard; I remember that.
If you ever get the chance and have the money (anyone interested) you should look up and obtain a copy of that 'Real People' show - I think it was on NBC. Had Fred Willard and Sarah Purcell on it and someone called Skip .. maybe Skip Stevenson. Can't remember his name, for sure.
Anyway, love your work. It's powerful and yes, indeed, that does look like one dangerous beast.

Why did they seize it? somebody bred a cat and a dog a while ago and nobody had a problem with that...

ha ha I don't know Governments they do these things! Perhaps it was because it was at a time when the medical/science industries were trying to shut down all this home remedy, folk medicine hoopla for good and make it illegal to buy herbs and medicate yourself so it would have been grossly inconvenient if they were calling herbalists part of the great myth of folkloric healing and then have it commonly known that myths, such as unicorns, really did and do exist .. or at least potentially can exist.
Maybe it interfered with some plan of the New World Order gang to subdue imagination and turn us all into drones or prols
Maybe there were other things in that book that were more dangerous and potentially just as true and useful.
Whatever the case, they seized it.
Who bred the cat and the dog? And was it at home or in a laboratory as the patron saints of science require?

I don't remember that, I remember what breeds they were though, the dog was a border collie and the cat was a domestic mix (I think).
And I think it was done domesticly (at home.)

those hooves and horn looked deadly. the way it's laying is interesting, and i like the tufty tail. it looks kind of human, too. and the ribs.

Amazing image indeed! I am also glad to hear that at least someone noticed the perversion of the myth now days!!! The image would also look stunningly on the body in a form of a tattoo!
