Description
Nothing much to say about this image. It's a bronze colored dragon, stalkin' through the woods, climbing on rocks and so forth.
Started on it five months ago after coming back from a trip to Killbear Provincial Park, in Northern Ontario. I love how the rocks of the Canadian Shield pop out from amongst the trees and such out there, and how the cedar trees cling to 'em at almost impossible angles and stuff.
-> Acrylic paint, on a piece of 11" x 14" illustration board. <-

Ugh, I don't know how constructive it is, but I /do/ love how you paint those rocks. You just don't /get/ that kind of stuff out here on the stupid prairies.
Anyways, as for the dragon, I especially like the lighting through the wings. Eeeexcellent.

Hmm... You ask for constructive comments in the description, yet you've chosen the "Critique Discouraged" option. Doesn't really make any sense...
Anyway. I don't find anything in this picture that I would've liked to see different, so in my eyes it's perfect. And nice job on those wings. The semi-transparentness makes the image more realistic (if a picture of a dragon can be realistic, that is). And that's all I wanted to say. Keep up the good work.

I believe she was asking for constructive comments (as in not "OMG! A DRAGON! COOL, Im telling you to draw more, NO MORE HALO, BOO!")
not constructive critism
therfore, it now makes sense
(this is no attack on you, I'm just saying that's what I think she ment =^.^= )

If that's the case, then I need someone to explain me the difference between constructive comments and constructive criticism. The way I see it, you can't leave a constructive comment without using criticism.

I like the way you did the face. That along with the ears and horns makes it look kind of like an antelope or impala. Very nicely done with the colors, too. And a superb background. I don't know how you manage all that detail.

A dragon will always get my attention, and this one in particular. Great background, intriguingly human-like features; easily worthy of an RPG or somesuch.

The placement of the tail's interesting. The body and legs imply a forward motion, but the tail wrapping around to the front says, maybe, it's stopped in it's tracks and the tail has curled around it's body, like a cat does.
Of courese I've drawn my fair share of dragons, and I completely understand the desire to keep the tail in full view. The tail is after all, an important part of the dragon anatomy.
I'm very intrigued by the deer-like qulaities of the head, the ears, the horns, the nose, and the overall wedge shape. it's not often dragons are accocciated with herbiverous animals.
I also like how you used one of your biggest strengths, the metallic texturing, but only enough so you see why it's a bronze dragon, and not so much as a mirroring effect.
What else can I say? I love this piece. The anatomy is good, the perspective is spot on, and the Canadian setting gives it that extra bit of enjoyability for me. I've seldom thought of a Candian dragon, or it's habitat.

While I have no beef with the size or angle of the wings (shoulderblades on flyers I think should be assumed to be more versatile than ours by default I think, and as for size and realistic functionality, well, Ursula puts it best in her wing debate [link] ) or the human like eyes , it does seem like the dragon is cut and pasted onto the scene just a wee bit. Mostly due to the bright white highlights on her in some places. Damn you do backgrounds so well! I think that's my favorite part of most of your paintings, makes me want to study them and figure out how trees are done (I really suck at plants just dont know where to start.) You get a fave ^^ not like you really need 'em, but hey, judging by your LJ I'm guessing every little bit of good stuff helps
take care Jaxx

Wow, usually I like digital over real media, but you do so awesome with it in this case I'll make an exception. The only problem I have with this is that the wings seem to point almost straight down, and while it's easier to draw them that way I know it wouldn't be much harder for you to line them up with the rest of the body. Other than that though, this pic just plain rocks out loud.

Your description reminds me of some of the cliffs beside the roads down here. *lives in New Brunswick* Trees grow out of the smallest ledges and some grow straight out from the rock and then bend a ninety degree angle straight back up.

It's a very nice painting. I like it very much... But I'm a liltle bit confused... You discouraged critics, but you ask constructive comments too!
Ok, here my comments that, unfortunately, are also critic... I hope they are constructive:
the wings have an excellent texture, but they are too small to be used to fly. Moreover, you have to think that the wings are simply big hands with a membrane. In your painting this idea is missed... The fingers attach on the "hand" in an innatural way... For me its difficult to explain in English, but I'm sure it would be clear what I mean just taking a look to a bat wing.
Finally, the eyes don't like reptilian eyes... They look too human.
Now, I hope to not have bothered you.... I know dragons are mythical creatures , and thus you can depict them as you want
