Description
I proudly showcase this, not only my first Dead Duck cartoon of 2007, but my first drawing of 2007!A little background info: I created the idea of the Canadian Mafia, or The Nova Scotia Cosa Nostra, a few years back. They've appeared, generally in name and notoriety but at least once in the flesh, in movies and cartoons that I've made since the late 90's. So now they've made their presence known in the world of Dead Duck, which should make for some interesting storytelling.

As a Nova Scotian, I must say this brings a smile to my face. I could go on about a group of Canadian politicians in the '70s nicknamed the "Nova Scotia Mafia," but... I won't.

Thank god you didn't take offense at the name! I have such a deep respect for Canada, and totally meant it as a light hearted tribute. Thank you for validating my humble joke!

.....Canadian Mafia. I bet they're polite even when they're taking your loonies and toonies.
I always love your dead duck stuff, my kind of humor. Though my jokes tend to get more perverted

"Perverted?" Well then my friend, you probably fit into my "other" category. Y'see, my while I strive to make all my art funny, my stuff tends to fall into two schools of appreciation: Gruesome and, as you've mentioned, perverted. Dead Duck tends to be the spokesmodel for the gruesome school while The Krazybread Man (or Krazy) preaches to the perverted. So to the logical conclusion of all this hoo-hah, you must be more of a Mother's Goofs man, and I can certainly appreciate that!

This is more graphic than I've seen in your work, hon, but by no means am I saying it's a bad thing. I love the name, and as always Zombie Chick and Dead Duck are drawn so well. Keep up the great work and have a wonderful '07.

Man, I hope I don't end up ostracizing you from my work! Admittedly, some of my pieces can be gruesome (My Sin City tributes and X-23 piece come to mind), but I figured if I included this Dead Duck cartoon under the macabre category that it would be okay. I guess I should have put a warning on the piece for people who don't like seeing that kinda "Ralph Bakshi" type cartoon violence (which, again admittedly, I have an appreciation for and occassionally employ in my work). At any rate, I hope I haven't ruined you on Dead Duck. I can't promise this sort of graphic subject matter won't appear again from time to time, being that he's a minion of Death with a Zombie sidekick who pick up, well, the dead, but I'll try to have an advanced warning to those who wouldn't want to see something like that. You're one of my best friends on DA and I wouldn't want to scare you away!

Oh no, you won't do that. Your works are not solely based on graphic gore, and have a funny side to it even if it's darker at times. I rather like that personally. It's an honour to be considered a friend to such an amazing cartoonist ^_^

i'm actually trying to figure out if this is particularly violent. if it is then it's only in the sense that roadkill is violent. it's gruesome after the fact, but at this point there is no actual violence involved. does this count as a philosophical question?
anywho, this is another brilliant piece jay. *brainpoke*

Heh heh heh heh...ewww.
The Canadian Mafia, eh? Perhaps they have something to do with Banzai Beaver's mysterious disappearance between the concept and story stages of "The Herd".

Actually, I had written TNSCN into my Herd comic, as seen in the second story of the first issue where I first introduce Banzai Beaver! Obviously I haven't posted that story here yet, so none of you guys would have seen it. But rest assured, The Canadian Mafia figures in largely to Banzai's eventual joining into The Herd.

Ah, I was wondering where he went - I thought he'd become a victim of the rewrite process. I'm still looking forward to seeing his Abootakai skills in action.
