Description
This was a gag I've had in mind for a couple weeks, and despite other commissions and deadlines on my table, I decided to take time to put this down on paper. As a child of the 80's, I enjoyed The Real Ghostbusters. But it was a guilty pleasure that I watched shows like Jem as well. Being able to draw these Saturday morning icons today, when I'm no longer the eleven year old kid who dreamed of being a cartoonist, but instead the 37 year old professional cartoonist, just feels good.Related content

to quote Dr. Venkman from the cartoon:
Do the words 'stomach pump' mean anything to you?
(then again, I doubt Jem would be happy with the result)

I noticed that someone stole your art, and did not credit you in any way.

You are soooo right, man. It's something I considered when I thought up this cartoon. In the end, I decided it was worth bending the rules of Jem to make this gag work.

I saw the Real Ghostbusters--Lorenzo Music (Garfield's voice, suckas!) as Peter Venkman, Arsenio Hall as Winston Zeddimore, and of course Janine (redhead, glasses--RRROOWWRR!). Didn't watch Jem too much. I did like the looks of the rival band The Misfits, even if they aren't as scary as the real Misfits from Lodi, NJ (shout-out to Glenn, Jerry, Doyle and Robo). Slimer's line is the capper--it was the decade of huge hair, after all, and Aqua Net has been hair spray's gold standard for hair-hoppers at least since my Mom was sporting the beehive in high school. (Watching the fashions in Hairspray is like thumbing through her yearbooks for me.) Hilarious take on a couple of 80's cartoon classics.

This is just full of coolness. When are they going to get off their lazys and make that Jem movie? And Jem vs Hannah Montana free for all.

This... I can't even describe how much this made my day. I adored both of those shows as a young teen. Aqua Net... *facepalm* Classic.

Thank you! I'm just sorry the broadcast came out so blurry last night. I don't know if it's my camera or the website. Regardless, I'm glad you got to see this finished piece!

"Aqua Net"! There's a name I haven't heard in eons. A name from the days of Big Hair, and holes in the ozone layer.
This is a fun and cute pic.

Ha! Yeah, the girls in my graduating class of 1993 owe a big ol' letter of apology to the ozone layer!

Jem was a tool of the Illuminati! A highly trained mole/assassin who answered solely to Goofy!
Another good one Jay! Fun watching it come together last night.

I think that if it were on TV nowadays, today's boys could watch Jem guilt-free. But yeah, in the 80's boys had to watch Jem with the curtains drawn shut. Or say things like, "I'm only watching it because Robotix comes on afterwards."
Stupid macho 80's.

HA ha! Funny and true! I was just talking to my wife this morning about how so many cartoons I watched as a kid were not necessarily intended for my gender. But damn it all, I liked Care Bears!

My dad forbode my brother and me from watching Care Bears or Rainbow Brite. Jem was permissible because of the formentioned Robotix and Big Foot. Thank God, right? If he'd let us watch Rainbow Brite, I'd surely be gay today.
