I warned people that I'd be producing more Popeye themed art! Here's Wimpy, Popeye's best friend, and resident mooch of Sweethaven. I decided to dig deeper into his trademark phrase, "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" and get to the core of what he really means when he says it. I'll end this by saying Wimpy is one of the most deceptively simple characters to draw--meaning he looks easy, but he's tricky as hell. And this is by far the best attempt I've made to draw him.Related content

Which era do you think is better?
I liked the Famous/Paramount ones best as a child, still do, but I've come to like the Fleischer ones better as I've gotten older.

Wimpy and Eugene The Jeep were my favorite Popeye characters I remember Popeye was tied to an iron girder Bluto is beating him senseless and Wimpy looks up and says "I must do something about this!" he runs over passes um both and gets the jar of mustard for his burger you gotta love commitment like that

Wimpy is one of my favorite cartoon characters, and the inspiration for those of us with some pretty serious hamburger cravings. I like to think that Ronald McDonald, the Burger King, Wendy, and Jack-in-the-Box are waiting to beat him up in a dark alley over all those hamburgers he's mooched over the years. Nice tribute.
