I should have submitted the finished version of that whole cartbeast walkthrough, but halfway through I started collecting my other sprites to briefly cover texture... and discovered I had a TON of sprites and wouldn't be able to "briefly" cover it. I threw color theory in there too since I do that now automatically.
Hope it's helpful, guys!

There is a sprite off of Dragcave =3 I helped collab on the Snow Angels. The other sprites are either from a site that has seen been shut down, or my own personal work =3

Ah, I recognized the egg there (I dislike their new shading method. Although it's true that eggs have a slightly rough texture, it looks better shaded smoother), but I didn't recognize the majority of the other creatures

Those aren't DC eggs They're from ZI, which is the site that died. I didn't shade the DC eggs.

I have a couple of your dragons. Did you do the Black Marrow and Snow Angel? I have them.

The Black Marrow was done by Dove and Seiss. I did the Snow Angels with Dis and TheAntimonyElement (Embyrn), and the Neotropicals with DolphinSong, UltimateTH, and Kalayra

I collabed with others on the Neotropicals and Snow Angels, and submitted a few others that haven't been selected to be "incave" yet, if that's what you mean =3

I don't know. Most of these just resembled the same style as the dragons in dragon cave. (Since i'd been on last, quite a while ago)

Grats on the DD, Jazi.
This is a wonderful tutorial. It still probably won't help me, though. T.T
Do you still go on Dragcave Forums? I don't know if I've seen you around.

Don't say that =3 Everyone has room for improvement.
I do, but not nearly as often. Nowadays you'll either find me lurking in drama topics (cause they're fun to watch) or GD. I do still make an effort to to onto the irc, though.

Sort of =3 I helped with the Neotropicals and Snow Angels (under the name JaziandCo), but I haven't actually contributed there in a while.

Tyreasus In reply to JaziSnake [2011-07-26 15:42:50 +0000 UTC]
That is really cool, though! You got your sprites to be some of the dragcave dragons, and that is something a lot of people wish to do.
I tried once, but I didn't know how to sprite So, I came up with a better idea, but I still don't know how to sprite...

It's not too hard, once you get the hang of it =3 Just practice a lot, and you'll start noticing improvement. Three years ago, my sprites looked like [link] <- that. And that was after three years of practice (6 years in all)!

Tyreasus In reply to JaziSnake [2011-07-26 16:09:51 +0000 UTC]
Soooooo, I guess I'll try. The one thing I'm most afraid of is the shading because I've heard that takes a lot of time. But, I'll just find a way to make it shorter and just as good.
I think I'll work on my one idea soon. I haven't any projects so I think I could. Can I do this on Photoshop?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
JaziSnake In reply to Tyreasus [2011-07-26 16:17:28 +0000 UTC]
Don't worry if it takes a lot of time =3 Patience is key. My sprites take me on average between 4-8 hours depending on what all I'm doing with them. Once you establish a base, it starts going faster and faster and personally I get so lost in what I'm doing that I wouldn't know how much time passed if I wasn't recording myself xD
You can sprite in any image editing software that allows you to edit at pixel level. Remember to use the pencil tool if you use Photoshop or GIMP. I personally started in MSPaint.

That's why I tell people not to give up just because they don't see improvement in two weeks x3 It doesn't happen that fast for everyone, but improvement comes to those who work for it.

Hmm. Your description muddles me, cartbeasts? sprites? How do sprites help you with cover texture... which your tutorial would load, and then maybe things will become clear... damn crappy bandwidth.
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
JaziSnake In reply to Tianithen [2011-07-26 15:08:58 +0000 UTC]
"Sprites" are little pieces of pixel art. The most common form of sprites are seen in videogames on handheld systems or older consoles (think Pokemon, Sonic, old Final Fantasy, etc). Therefore, when I make little characters, creatures, etc using pixel art, I'm "spriting" or "making sprites". This tutorial covers how I make them seem texturized rather than just flatly shaded like blobs.
Cartbeasts, on the other hand, are just some sprites I did for a website on commission that I was making a separate tutorial about when I made this one. Sorry about your bandwidth, it IS a really big image @_@ But I felt like I had to cover as much as I could.
