I like this. The way the shadows is making a design on her back and the look on her face is beautiful. Also, that is considered a normal body structure for some people.

very emotional.... it's scary that you can see so much ribs and how thin the arms are I love the black and white. Nice expression.

this is simple and gorgeous. she has this quiet beauty to her that you completely capitalized on with the simplicity of your background and lighting while accentuating your model with a strange yet elegant pose. very well done.

It's striking, but I'm sorry I think she might be a tad underweight. I suppose that adds to the feel.

Wonderful shot! The model looks so interesting. I love seeing a variety of body types and so on in nudes.

For all of those telling her to 'go eat a sammich' please check out the model's gallery. It's due to the pose and the shadowing. The girl is clearly healthy; [link] [link] [link]
Nothing is more frustrating for people who are thinner and smaller than "average" than to be called anorexic when they are healthy per their doctor's. Some people have higher metabolism. The same could be said for those who are healthy and a bit heavier.
So unless anyone here is a doctor and has examined this woman themselves they shouldn't run their mouth on how 'disgusting' this model is. If anything you're the disgusting ones for having such a foul mind.
Further still I do not think that the photographer or model are trying to sexual-ize anything. Like another commenter has said; MOST artwork and photography when dealing with artistic nudes is hardly sexual in nature. Sensual on the other hand is a different matter.

I agree with you to a point. If art challenges us to think, then my gut reaction to this is that she is malnourished, not that she is a beautiful model. True, she may not be malnourished, but this image gives that impression. Unfortunately, all I can focus on in this photo is her protuding ribs, and it makes me sad for her. What does the artist challenge us to see in this photo?

koke-momo In reply to MacKenziesPride [2010-05-18 01:23:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh I agree, I'm sure that the photographer purposely took the photo in the pose that he did. If this was what the photographer had in point to show anorexia in such a manner, then that's what he had planned, however I'm not the photographer. I'm simply frustrated with people freaking out saying "OMG that is DISGUSTING SHE NEEDS A SANDVICH!" Without even looking at the model's page. Further art is subjective one takes from it what they believe, it's always been like this within art, popculture and music. Just look at Stairway to Heaven for a moment, one person may say it's dark and anarchistic but another person might say that the woman is being lead by light. Again it depends on the person.

Well said, and art is very subjective - we each take something different away from it. The artist has done much to illicit a very visceral reaction to the subject.

Before saying she's anorexic I think one should understand that there are MANY different body types, it's not just skinny and fat. You have curvaceous or lanky etc.We shouldn't be so judgmental about people's bodies.

although i dont know her and she is quite thin, i hope she realizes her face is her power, her attribute, her voice and though most models think they must abuse their body to be beautiful or perfect, her eyes alone achieve that.
i would rather throw you a cupcake for excellence than a greasy cheeseburger :\ (cupcake is probably 4xs less calories anyways LOL )
great shot

Jeez, sexualize anorexia why don't you? When's the world going to realize that starving women ARE NOT SEXY?
At least give us more in your comment - tell us WHY you are sexualizing what is obviously an unhealthy woman. Give your art some meaning.

Since we're all sharing our opinions, I would recommend revising the bulk of your own gallery before telling someone else to put some "meaning" into his/her artwork.
IMO, nudity and sexuality are not synonymous. I won't even bother with the "she's not anorexic" argument because the majority of the people on this site FAIL at human anatomy anyway; they happily disregard positioning and lighting.

It makes an ass out of mostly just you.
Look at these other shots and you can clearly see that this model is perfectly healthy.

How you find this sexy I don't know. Her expression, perhaps. That I would understand. But that's all up to the person viewing it and what they see as "sexy". But just because someone is naked, they're instantly sexualized?
Secondly, she's not anorexic. Look at how she's twisting her body- I can also do that and make my ribs pop out. Not to that extent, but the shading and lighting also adds to this.
You're assuming too much based on some camera magic and unclothed breasts.

Personally, I don't really see it as sexualizing. By her expression, she seems downcast and reflective. It's always important to remember that in photography (or just art in general) nakedness is almost never sexual.

junoXinu In reply to ShinaV [2010-05-18 01:16:52 +0000 UTC]
Then why have nakedness at all? It is not for beauty: Our most primitive ancestors concealed "private" refions because left exposed, could stir up a sexual response.

Don't think about it as nudity. Think about it as naturality. Animals don't cover up. We do because we are prudes. In my province it is completely legal for people to go to beaches and parks and pools topless. It doesn't hurt anyone, and it's nice.

Our primitive ancestors concealed private bits for protection from the elements and from getting hurt. Don't you think it would make sense for primitive man to put a loin cloth over his penis so it didn't get scratched by a branch or something? Primitive women hardly even covered their breasts.
There are women now in tribes who still don't cover their breasts, since in their culture they don't see the need. Breasts are only there to feed their young.

I don't see the need either, at least when the situation permits. Most of the time it's too cold to go without a shirt, but at the beach, go for it!

Something to keep in mind is, not everyone is aroused by just seeing someone naked! Some people can appreciate seeing the human body without taking it down the sexual route.

ShinaV In reply to junoXinu [2010-05-18 02:06:51 +0000 UTC]
It is for beauty. The structure and anatomy of the physical body is a beautiful thing. Most likely, it is to give a feeling of vulnerability or a sense of being exposed. It should create emotion in viewer, not physical arousal. And as to your second point, on the contrary, the ancient Greeks as well as the Romans glorified the naked body and incorporated it into the majority of their artwork as well as architecture.
Of course there is "art" out there which exposes the body in an inappropriately carnal or sexual manner. But if that is the case, it's more likely to be considered pornography rather than art.
To be honest, there is art which can incorporate sex and still be art. Despite what the world has often portrayed it, sex is still a very beautiful thing and a gift to mankind. We just need to use it appropriately and not turn it to smut.
Of course, I agree with what you said as to the fact that anorexia is NOT beautiful, but perhaps someone who has struggled with it can relate to the photo. However, if you look at this artists other works, the model clearly is not anorexic. Art is a way to communicate, to tell a story, or to create emotion. Of course, you don't have to agree with anything I've said, but it's always nice to be able to voice my views.

junoXinu In reply to ShinaV [2010-05-18 02:28:35 +0000 UTC]
Sure I have an open mind. I don't think that anorexia is beautiful. I personally know someone who struggles to desperately gain weight (they are not anorexic, however. Just skinny) and no matter what it just never seems to happen. It's something that follows that person with everything they eat, every time they put on their clothes, every time people look at them. That person has to stuff their mouth with food even when they feel like they want to puke because they have already eaten so much. It's nothing beautiful, you could just ask this person.
And the Greeks and Romans were after a considerable amount of industrialization. I'm talking before that when we were in our most primal state.
I also think you can stir up those serious and non-sexual emotions in a way that does not show nudity. Or perhaps they could use a better fed model. This picture is almost offensive to me. I am of a normal weight and I see many girls who are fighting desperately to get as skinny as the models that the fashion and art world glorifies. The sad thing is, for these anorexic models who are not naturally skinny like the person I know, they can NEVER be skinny enough for their taste. It takes a strong female to not be suppressed by the media and resist following the endless quest to be a living skeleton.
I don't even understand this because men naturally prefer women with a little more meat on their bones. The sad truth is that an anorexic or severely underweight person can't even conceive. It's against nature because they cannot support a pregnancy.

That's only what they believed. I'm looking at those nipples right now and I can tell you honestly I feel nothing remotely sexual. And I like boobs. I just have the ability to see a naked person without instantly wanting to hump them.

You were acting like boobs/cock/vag automatically trigger an overt sexual response in people just by seeing them. That's...just not how it works. Yeah, there are some horny bastards out there, but not everyone is obsessed with sex.

For all of you complaining about how she looks skinny and scary, I believe that the whole POINT of this piece may be to show a take on the artist's opinions of anorexia. At least that's what I THINK, because it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this.
I think it was captured beautifully and realistically, if I have to say my own opinions. Very nice work. <3

Perhaps that should have been stated in the comments then? If you took away some of the harsh shading from the angles it wouldn't look as bad.. but as you said it's what the photographer was probably going for... it doesn't change that many of us see it as a bit too much.
I get the idea behind it, but I think that other shots in her gallery are.... better.

I wouldn't really be able to ever tell how bad it might look...I'm very skinny myself, so the picture doesn't look so bad when I compare it to what I see in the mirror.

Super Feeling, wunderbar. Das geht in meine Favouriten. Lass dich von den Leuten hier nicht so runtermachen.
Ich mag deine Augen hier sehr.
Super Bild, wie gesagt ^^
