Description I started this animation back in mid January. This video short is a tribute to an amazing unofficial contest we have over at He-man.org called the ‘Fan Staction Contest’ held annually by Thomas Tolman & it brings about the evolution of some of the greatest character concepts ever. The Winner of the contest is transformed into a 6” + statue by Mr. Tolman. I’d like to clarify that all of these are not my original characters, each of them is created by fans at the .org. But I have done the entire Animation completely on my own with a few assists from Patreek Ireland & Andrew Cramer. This Animation has been done with Toon Boom Studio 4.5 & ofcourse Adobe Photoshop CS2 & complied together with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Also I in order to avoid any copyright issues this I came up with a totally different concept that would separate these characters from the MOTU Universe just for this particular intro & decided to name is “Chronicles of the Forgotten Realm.”

I would like to thank every He-man.org member for their support & permission to allow me to use their characters.

Last but not the least I’d like to thank Mark Palenik for creating the original music for this 1:30 min animation with his song “Lost”. Thanks Mark!

Also I forgot to credit for his character Inkshot. Sorry bout that.

Following are the Lyrics to the song:

Lost, I was blinded in the middle of the night.
Which way is darkness and which way is light?

Down to demons shall we bow?
Does it even matter now
as I fight the lies in truths that fall before me?
Like a seed dropped in the sand
as I fight His rightous hand.
If it isn't arrogance, then what could it be?

My cries,
so hated in your eyes,
like they're just lies.

Lost, I was blinded in the middle of the night.
Before me was the darkness, behind me was the light.

So without further adue, Here’s Chronicles of the Forgotten Realm…

Learning Flash might be worth it... but frame-by-frame also works as long as you keep up the frame rate, of course ^_^

You can tell you put alot of work into it! The animations were so smooth! Also, you could get a real feel for the charachters through their animations... Like many said before, this looks very much like something you'd see on Saturday morning TV so long ago... but I think it's been done even better ^^

Very nice, I love the High Fantasy feel of it. The vid was a little choppy in some part, though.

That end logo that says "Chronicles of the Forgotten Realm", is that in reference to the D&D Forgotten Realms, or is that just coincidental?

JazylH In reply to BD-666 [2009-04-29 11:02:40 +0000 UTC]

Coincidental I guess. Glad you like it. I hope my Animation gets better with time & practice.

JazylH In reply to Poopgoblyn [2009-04-29 09:57:30 +0000 UTC]

Not sure what you mean, exactly? Whats a Spinal Tap? This was an intro based of off original characters from a contest that is held at one of the He-man sites I'm a member off.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Poopgoblyn In reply to JazylH [2009-04-29 18:42:08 +0000 UTC]

Hehe it was a fake documentary about a fake band called Spinal Tap. And Spinal Tap was one of those heavy metal bands from the 80s, like power metal, and this reminded me of it. And anytime there is a power metal or heavy rock kind of band or music that i can't recognize i always ask Is this Spinal Tap?
Cool as hell animation though! I haaaave the powerrrrr

JazylH In reply to Poopgoblyn [2009-04-30 02:19:46 +0000 UTC]

I see . I assure you this wasn't spinal tap. This music was done by Mark Palenik who is a friend of mine. Glad you like the animation.

Reminds me of the cool '80s and '90s cartoons really great work. Was missing a strong guitar solo in the audio, but that's just me ^_^

JazylH In reply to RobertLaszloKiss [2009-04-29 10:02:06 +0000 UTC]

I agree, It does miss the guitar fell a bit. I based the video off an anime song at first, but in order to put it on the internet I had to have an original track & I'm more than grateful to Mark Palenik, the guy who fave the music to this piece with whatever tool he had. I'm glad you like it none the less. Thank you.

Luna-Kitsune-Blu [2009-04-29 07:34:31 +0000 UTC]

First off, Congrats on the DD. It's a good animation, though it could've used more inbetweens. As is, there's a lot of parts where it's very choppy. Squash and stretch would've helped some too, I think.

The biggest problem though is the song. The singer made it hard for me to sit through the entire thing. He was flat and heaved up a lot of the held notes. I know the point wasn't to make a music video, but when it turns people off from your artwork, it's something I'd consider fixing.

JazylH In reply to Luna-Kitsune-Blu [2009-04-29 10:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I really appreciate the feedback. I agree it has its draw backs, I've only started my animation back in 2008 & using Toon Boom & I've got a long long way to go to perfect it. I do not mean to defend my work or anything, but when I converted it from uncompressed quicktime to DivX, some of the framess did become a bit choppy like the sword fighting sequence & the Polar bear bringing the hammer down.I agree on the inbetweens tho, but the fact is I only had 2 months, as I had other priorities lined up after this one, but no excuses. I'll try to make better animation the next time round.

As for the music, originally it was based off an Anime, but if it were to end up on the internet & here on DA it needed it's own score. I personally like the song although I can understand how you feel & it's entirely a matter of opinion. I'm guessing a intro without the vocals would've better suited the animation. Thats what I thought at first but I eventually liked the vocals. I'm not much of a singer so I won't comment on that but I think all in all it suits the intro.

Just incase you wanna see the original track it was based off here's the link:

I'm glad you liked it & like i said i will try to improve as I go ahead.

Your work is amazing--I realized after I sent the first comment that it really sounded like I didn't appreciate it. I've tried doing some animation myself--I know it's hell, so I do admire you for putting that together in so little time to the level you did. It's definitely impressive.

You really do deserve the DD, my opinion on music aside. I'm sorry the transfer gipped you, though.

First things first, again! Man i love your choice of background music! It made the all epic battle sequence even more epic. This is so loyal to a classic He-Man animation. And the animation is smooth except for some scenes where you could have used more frames. But yes I know how difficult it is to make frames after frames for even a small scene!

But in the end! Great job mate!!
