Description
This is an abstract of the steam engine that was utilized inside of each of Climber's drive wheels. The engine would remain stationary, while the planetary gears; powered by a drive-chain, would cause the wheel to rotate around it. The steam pistons were powered by the main boiler, and fed through connections through the wheel's two hubs. The main boiler tank fed steam into smaller reservoir tanks inside each wheel, to better regulate overall power and pressure, and to maintain control should a wheel and/or engine become damaged. The planetary gears are mounted on an arm which can retract them, effectively putting the wheel in neutral.Utilizing this engine in each of its fourteen wheels gave Climber remarkable speed and acceleration for a vehicle of its size. It also gave it a safe number of redundant systems, in case of damage.

When I finished this, I realized it kinda looks like a steampunk Iron Man chestpiece.

Why not just give each wheel it's own boiler? That seems like it would be much more effeicient than trying to power all ten (Or fourteen, if the wheels not in active contact with the ground also have such engines) from a single boiler. And judging from the sheer SIZE of the machine these things need to move, there is DEFINITELY room in them.

This was in sketchup, right? How do you keep track of all of those shapes? Also, how long did this one take you? I'm astounded.

Yeah, this was done in sketchup in about four hours on and off. I used a lot of component pieces of my own making, and built it inside the actual wheel.

One can only speculate as to where technology would have gone had we not completely abandoned the steam engine, in favor of internal combustion. It is my fervent belief that this technology shall rise again!

We'll see, I certainly wouldn't mind steam powered cars.

Lol, you're welcome! The engine configuration changed a bit during the great war, I'll prolly upload that next week!

Thanks! I'm fully working up the inner workings of Climber, it's definitely going to crash my PC a few more times before I'm done.
