Description
Meningitis is a serious disease which causes the membrane covering the brain to become seriously inflamed and can move into the spine. Left untreated, the disease will eventually lead to permanent psychological damage or death. The key to curing this illness lies in how early the symptoms are recognized and how soon the patient seeks treatment. Early signs of meningitis infection begin with headaches and flu like symptoms, light sensitivity, vomiting, drowsiness and neck stiffness. Once a patient believes that they have contracted meningitis, medical treatment must be sought after immediately to prevent long term damage to the body. A spinal tap is conducted to determine a diagnosis and if meningitis is confirmed the patient is placed on powerful antibiotics or antiviral medications as a long term inpatient.
