Description
Sorry for the delay. I've been busy with work and life. But I've learned some new techniques in that time.Description
Common Name: Enfield
Scientific Name: Defluxivulpeculae callidae (cunning little gliding fox)
Length: 3.5 feet
Wingspan: 5 feet
Weight: 2.5 pounds
Diet: Carnivorous
Biology
Enfields are a small arboreal species of Dracoforme. They are distantly related to the much larger wyvern. Enfields have a wingspan of 5 feet and are hexopodal. The fore wings are used for propulsion and the hind wings for altitude control and additional take-off propulsion. On their fore wings, they have a large claw which is used for climbing and killing. The hind wings also have claws which the enfield uses to grip the tree when climbing. Enfields have two air sacs in its torso and hollow, yet very strong, bones that reduce its weight. Despite having a reptilian appearance, the enfield is warm blooded. Its metabolism is like earth’s flying animals and generates a lot of heat. To avoid overheating, the enfield breathes through its mouth and two air inlets located at the front of the chest cavity. This increases oxygen intake and cooling.
Habitat
Forest and jungle regions
Hunting behavior
Enfields are arboreal predators. They glide from tree to tree in search of prey. When prey is spotted they silently glide on top them and pin them to a tree. They then sting the victim to prevent a struggle. Death comes in seconds. Enfields eat their prey in trees to avoid larger predators.
Enfields also eat aquatic life. They skim the water, much like their larger cousins, and when prey is captured they immediately kill it by stinging it.

Aren't enfields supposed to be a chimera with a fox head, eagle wings and torso, lion legs and a wolf tail?

Yes. I used the legend as inspiration. The head had a fox skull base.

It looks more like a pterosaur.

It's just an alien creature concept. It's going to have features that can be associated with creatures of our world.

Makes sense. In all likelihood, aliens are going to some what resemble creatures in our world. If you look at the fossil record there is a lot of repetition with physical appearances for animals that filled niche roles.
