Did you use a reference for the dolphins at all? Either way this is a stunning painting.

I was at Seaworld with my sketch pad, like I am almost every weekend, when they formed a very similar formation. I always use reference, but I'm been sketching them so often that I really don't need it anymore. And my girls are always asking for dolphin's sketches so its a win win for me... Thanks for commenting!

I didn't know they kept spinner dolphins at Seaworld. Just wondered since the positioning of the dolphins looks very similar to Ai Gentel's photo taken of spinners in Hawaii.

You are correct, they don't keep spinner dolphins in sea world. These specific dolphins are definitely inspired by Gentel.

Love the idea you've gone with for the surface, that close section of the water with the view both above and below. Really brings the viewer into the painting more.

Thanks, that's because once I scan it, I retouch in photoshop to bring out things that I just miss while painting. I think this process is helping me in my traditional process because I'm starting to see it before hand. I like digital too, and may start to focus my art in that direction. Its a heck of a lot cheaper for one and you have unlimited undo's, LOL. Thanks for the comment!

actually is not a part... the movie, as well as the book, is about the universe.. and the dolphins are the most inteligent species on earth... they are trying to inform us, the humans, that the earth is going to be destroyed!... its an amazing crazy movie!! hahha
