Description I've been working too long on this. I am at my wit's end. I have to submit it now or I'll never do it.

Tis Sam Manson going Gothic Lolita. *JB just can't draw a goth without lace now...* Although it's rather TAME gothic lolita clothes she's wearing. The gothic lolita fashion movement, btw, started in Japan but is finding its way here in the US. Hot Topic is beginning to catch a clue apparently. *points to a Gothic Lolita magazine at her local Hot Topic* Not saying that Hot Topic is authority in Goth fashion. Oh noes. They're a bit too mainstream now to be considered underground. But yes, Gothic lolita style is still considered to be rather underground stuff.

So yesh. Sam's going underground. Literally. Originally I thought to name this "Going Backstage" like at a concert, cuz of those posters, but ya just can't ignore her new clothes. The focus here isn't the background, its her. All she's doing is flashing the camera a smile before she heads further down to an underground concert basement.

Enjoy! THis took me waaaay too long to finish. *shakes fist at bg*

EDIT Okies, now I have time to write a more detailed description. lol! Sorry, I had to rush to work...ahem. It seems there's a misunderstanding as to why this took me so long. I didn't draw the lace myself. I found a picture of some black lace on the internet, (I think it was a fabric store) and with photoshop I made a brush of it. Then I brushed it on here and with much copying, pasting, cutting, moving, and rotating, I adjusted to accordingly to the part it was to go to. From this piece of lace I also copied, cut, pasted and moved the fishnet part to make one large square of fishnet and set that as a brush as well. That's how I got such a large piece of fishnet for her choker.

As for the shirt, I used various different brushes from Deviantart (speaking of which I gotta note these folks and thank them!) But the main ones I used are from . You'll recognize his Tribal Flower brushes . But I also used some grungy stars from his Grunge Brushes Then I just used the default photshop stars to further adorn Sam's shirt. All in all, I'm pleased with her shirt design. With the exception that when I merged the layers on here, the design became dull. It was supposed to be brighter and more silver toned. X3; Oh well, I'm going to edit this pic soon anyways to fix that.

Anyways, I'm very happy with her clothing. I kinda wish I had an outfit like that...(except I'd definately wear the skirt slighly longer...). XD;

As for the background...I hate it! That's what took me so darn long! And even when I was done with it, I still didn't want to submit it. I'm going to find a way to get rid of those posters. They're a hazard here on DA. >_< Ya can never be sure what'll be accepted and what won't. >_<

Let's see...what else? Uh yeah, some of you might've noticed I did her eyes differently from last time. I wanted them to be more lavender than purple, since that's how she's drawn on the cartoon. (She has no pupils!) I kept redoing her eyes, cuz they looked sloppy to me, but in the end, I gave up and this is how they ended up. Kinda...exotic. I sorta like it, but I don't know if I wanna keep doing it. I can't remember all the steps I took to make them look this way... Oh well, I'll figure something out.
Hm...her hair. I don't like it. I liked her hair in the last pic, but for some reason I could NOT get it to look that way here. The layers and colors on photoshop refused to cooperate with me. Frustrating, indeed. Oh well, in a way that kinda works, since the lack of lavender in her hair, leaves the lavender in her eyes to stand out more.

Oy...this still took too long to finish/submit.

I like it better this way, with the violet highlights instead of the almost-white ones. It seems more... natural, that her hair isn't like, blindingly shiney.

You know, let me comment more because I've been staring at this obessively since yesterday.

Was the shirt made up or was there a reference? It's so pretty and, wow... and of COURSE the lace question...

But alos, majorily for me, did you DRAW those posters?

And, ya, wow...

She would make a great Lolita. I love Lolita stuff hehe. (Again you saw those pics of me ^_^. Which I suppose is un-tame Lolita? Lmao.)

Really JB, wow....

jbramx2 In reply to Summoner-Lenne [2006-03-18 21:01:00 +0000 UTC]

lol! I made up the shirt. Ya see, I went on deviantart and found several sets of brushes. (speaking of which I have to credit those people, gosh darn time! how I run of you so much!)...I downloaded those brushes and used some from a grunge set and some from a tribal flower set. Then I 'brushed' those designs onto her navy blue shirt with a gray/white color in a seperate layer. Then I 'traced' those designs with bezle tool, and under them, splashed random colors like pink or blue and green, making the design look psychadelic. X3 And then I modified the layer with the design to make it look silver. To be honest it didn't come out the way I had planned it too. It should be much brighter, lighter, ect. It looks too dull now.

As for the lace, no, and I really gotta put this in the artist description (again I ran out of time when I submitted this)...I found a piece of lace and made a brush of it on photoshop. Then I used this brush repeatedly and altered it in various ways so it could adorn her outfit. And those posters, no! Hence what took me so long to submit it. I gotta find a way to get rid of them, so I can keep the picture up. >_< *shakes fist at DA for their copyright rules* But like I said in the artist description, they're there to demonstrate a stairway leading to an underground concert. *shakes fist* thus why I hate this background. >o

lol, I dunno if she'd make a great lolita. lol, seem's too rough around the edges. XD But I figured to give her outfit a bit of the gothic lolita style.

Ahhhh, I find the background amazing, but I mean, I think you could try and make up your own for copyright purposes?

And, when thought about, you're right, she'd be a kind odd GL, but still....

This is the reason why I'm kinda almost hesitant to get into digital art. There seems to be so much to DO, what with brushes and transpranecy settings and all this stuff...

And of course I really really need a copy of Photoshop and Open Canvas *sighs*

if I could...I would have! *That's why it took JB so long to submit it!* XD; lol! Eh, I'll fix it soon. I'd hate for this to get deleted cuz someone has a coniption over my using everyday posters in a background. -_- Can anyone even recognize them? I'd hate to ask what they'd do with collages...

heh, heh, yeah. There's tons of things ya have to learn in digital art-making. I'm still not aware of most of them. X_x;;

*Laughs!* You're wonderful at it anyway, heh.

Hmm, they looked sorta familar to me but I couldn't actually recognize them...

You know, most things become public property after 26 years or something?

Maybe you can look up some 30-year-old posters or something? That may work....

Yesh! IT's more...gothic lolita-influenced. X3 and noo, I didn't draw the lace. I found a piece of lace and with photoshop, made a brush out of it so I could use again and again. I mostly had to do a lot of copying, pasting and moving and rotating of this lace piece so I could adorn her outfit and arms. I also used the fishnet part of the lace and with much copying and pasting, made a fishnet brush that I used to adorn her neck. But thank you so much!

Squee! Thank you. what's funny is I kept changing her expression. Well, at least her mouth. I wasn't sure if I wanted her smiling or not, but in the end, her big smirk won out. ahaha, dude, I seriously need to explain this on the artist description...shame on me, lol. I didnt' draw the lace myself. I found a piece of lace and just made a brush of it on photoshop. I then used that brush in various ways to adorn her outfit. I also did the same with the fishnet. I mostly did a lot of copying, pasting, moving and enlarging to get that design. X3;

lol, thank you though. I just wanted to draw her in a different style. XD

Sam looks good! I love the lace. How do you draw it? I can never get lace to look good.
I love the Gothic Lolita look. I try to pull off a mild GL look with what I can find around here. I don't have one constant style, but what I call "Spooky cute" is one of them I favor. Sam here is definately spooky cute!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jbramx2 In reply to HelgaGP [2006-03-18 20:33:45 +0000 UTC]

Squee! Thank you. Truthfully, I could never draw lace myself. That would take too much time. I got a scan of black lace against white background and set it as a brush on photoshop. So really, all I did was use the same piece of lace several times with just some adjustment to how i wanted it on the picture. *JB did a lot of rotating, cutting and pasting* Same with the fishnet brush. I took the fishnet part of the lace design and with a lot of copying and pasting, made a big square of fishnet and set it as a brush so now I can use fishnet whenever i want.

Squee, yesh GL, is much fun. You also gotta have a lot of guts to wear it. lol, You're right spooky cute is Sam's look here. Hey, it fits, she is friends with a half-ghost.

ANd dude! (I really need to point this out in the artist description, shame on me...) I didn't draw the lace out myself. I found a piece of black lace against a white background and using photoshop set it as a brush. Now I can use this pattern whenever I want. I also used copy and pasting a lot to make my own fishnet brush too. So yeah, don't be surprised if you see this lace pattern again. Thank you so much though!

Childs Play for you... XDDD *bows before the greatness that is you* Don't ask...Jenna's got me on some kind of fanfic high with Gundam Wing. She says hello, btw! XD
