As of January 31, 2009, it's been ten years since "Family Guy" made its debut on FOX. And oh boy, what a difference a decade makes.I won't try to pretend that I'm still entertained by this show, because I'm not. I won't even try to paint a picture of the first three seasons as the perfect example of what the show could be, because that's not true either (even the so-called "glory years" tended to be mediocre at best). But at least in the spirit of Seth MacFarlane's trademark cutaways to things that are only tangentially related to what's going on, I can remember the time, way back in 1999, when these characters showed promise.
What'll the next ten years bring? I'm not sure I want to think about that...

Even Seth MacFarlane himself doesn't want to make new Family Guy anymore, and it's really showing with how awful the stories have gotten, and yet I would still rather watch The Simpsons than Family Guy any day.

I think seasons 4 through 6 were considered the show's best years.Β That's when it began to flex its creative muscles while managing to retain its classic heart.

Neat pic,and yeah I get what you mean,and unlike brian there,(lol.)I do remember when FG was worth watching,but now it's just gotten plain ridiculous.Β I'm not crazy about some of the ideas that macfarlane and the writers have been doing.
Like Meg being a human punching bag,or brian and quagmire being in a ridiculous hate fued. Well,that's what I think anyways,just giving my two cents worth on it.

The show has really gone downhill ever since who knows when Family Guy took the down fall due to how bad the jokes from the show are these days.
But the only characters I like now these days are Lois and Meg, and there are some good reasons why.
I like Lois for her hot moments (Mind Over Murder for example), which is why I draw her in my style, and in a Comic Story I created last year, and I like Meg because I feel sorry for how she's been treated.

Jesse, this is actually even more relevant now that they've killed and revived Brian. "X dies" is already a short-hand for jumping the shark, but their handling of the whole thing just reeks of desperation.

I still like Family Guy in spite of the show's decay, barring a few very bad episodes that I just avoid nowadays. Not all of the changes have been bad; some of my favorite episodes of the whole series have occurred in the later seasons. It's just that the worst character changes have hit the most commonly appearing characters.
Regarding the fanart itself, I like this picture alot. Leave it up to Brian to be the brutally honest one, and the vaguely depressed looks on the other character's faces (except Peter) are actually kind of haunting. Great work.

I kinda lament what they did to Stewie. I really would have enjoyed seeing him with more complex behavior from the "victory is mine!" days but turning him into a gay stereotype is not the way to go.

I completely agree, Family Guy has been going down hill for quite a while now. I will admit to liking the show up until about 2010. And I had almost given up on the show recently, but then I saw a certain episode. 176. And it restored my faith in the show somewhat, having one of the best scenes I've seen in a long while.
Meg stands up for herself against her family. She speaks her mind, and leaves both Lois and Peter in tears. Now I may be the only one who thinks this episode was awesome, as I love Meg as a character, and am extremely biased toward anything that actually shows her character growth, but seriously, watch it. It is very satisfying. And it is the only reason I will continue to watch Family Guy.

I had a mixed reaction. While it was nice for Meg to finally speak up, I felt rather conflicted about her decision to just accept the abuse for the sake of her family. Yeah, I realize it's supposed to be a parody of what would normally be a very special episode by completely turning the lesson on its ear, but even in that context, the moral "verbally and physically abusing a family member is okay as long as it's for the greater good" still seems all kinds of wrong.
But as they say, it's just a show, I should really just relax.
