Description A lot of the screenshot/drawing posts I did on Miiverse so far are for Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, so here we have a shameless pun based on Professor E. Gadd's coffee blending contraption, the Beanbean Machine.   You might say it was an excuse for me to draw Arle Nadja in a relevant joke, but hey, how often is it that I'll be able to properly reference Puyo Puyo on Miiverse?  Not often, I'll say! Goofiness aside,I hope you guys like this as well!

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is owned by Nintendo

Puyo Puyo is owned by SEGA/Sonic Team

AoStH Robotnik is owned by SEGA of America/DiC Entertainment

Well, Mario had Wario Woods as a Puyo Puyo clone, sooo....... accurate

I heard Puyo Puyo was inspired by Dr. Mario actually, so that's probably a better comparison.

its not aosth robotnik the correct name would be simply robotnik or classic robotnik

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JBX9001 In reply to Ramioplz [2017-06-21 22:25:20 +0000 UTC]

Thing is, "Robotnik" is still Dr. Eggman's real last name in the games; "Eggman" started as Sonic's way of taunting his physical appearance, but as we've seen he's embraced the nickname, and uses the term "egg" for nearly all of his creations.

"Classic Robotnik" does not apply to this incarnation of the doctor either; The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is non-canon (especially due to the fact that it only aired in the U.S., with no involvement with Sega other than licensing of their characters).  Which is why I refer to him as "AoStH Robotnik", and not THE Dr. Robotnik (a.k.a. Dr. Eggman).

Indeed!   I don't know if you've seen them yet, but I've done a bunch of drawings (and icons) based on the series.  I also run a group that focuses on Puyo Pop fan art, so check those out if you're interested!

Thanks for telling me!  (BTW, I am a HUGE fan of puyo pop. Highest chain was 8 or 9.)

JBX9001 In reply to XavierLeRandomGuy [2016-08-07 12:47:23 +0000 UTC]

Highest I ever got [on Puyo VS 2] was 13 chain, but that very rarely happens for me.  Plus I've only been able to do it in Endless Fever mode, so I still need practice.

Got a 8 chain 2 times. 1 on PPVS2, The other on mean bean machine.

I want to know why SEGA had changed the graphics (and the name) of the game?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JBX9001 In reply to JTGX2000 [2016-05-27 20:19:35 +0000 UTC]

As far as I can tell, it was a simple matter of them fearing the American audience won't be interested in the characters, since we were still warming up to anime at the moment (it wouldn't be until Dragon Ball Z and the Pokemon anime came around that we'd welcome the art style more).  So they replaced them with the characters from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, and Kirby characters for the SNES version.

But it's not like Puyo Pop was alone in the "Western degradation effect"; Kirby's American commercials portrayed him in a very weird, almost creepy manner up to Kirby's Dream Land 2, and the box art for the first few Mega Man games were particularly atrocious and looked nothing like the game itself.
