Description Uranus is a very unusual planet because it sits on its side with north and south poles sticking out the sides. It rotates around this axis, making it look like a ball rolling around in a circle around the Sun.

Uranus has rings and 27 known moons.

A beautiful picture. I like the Milky Way in the background.

Must have been napping when Neptune reached over and gently flipped it on its side.Β  And does she have three or five moons?Β  Can't remember because astronomers seem to keep finding them everywhere!Β

Six major moons: Puck, Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon.Β

Thank you.Β  Don't recall Puck, but am vaguely familiar with the other five.Β  Someone had been digging into ancient British mythology here.

Puck was discovered by Voyager 2.Β  Is inside the orbit of Miranda and about 100 mi across.

At a mere 100 mi across, where they referring to it as 'Puck' from "Midsummer's Night Dream", or as a hockey puck in relation to its larger cousins?

From the Shakesperaian character.Β

With the other names from, I believe, 'Midsummer Night's Dream', I would believe it.

Sometimes.Β  I just wish we mortals would send an orbiter probe out to Uranus before I have to leave this Earth.

We need to send some probes to the asteroid belt to determine if there is anything there worth mining, as we'll be needing that material for constructing ships to push out past the Oort Cloud.

Nightwalker50 In reply to cullyferg2010 [2019-08-02 22:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Better to start with mining materials for such from the Moon, as the asteroids are much further away, to yield results over much more time.Β

In Ben Bova's book, "Welcone to the Moon", from several years ago, he talked about extracting hydrogen and oxygen for the lunar dust called 'rhyolite'.Β  It was the one thing I added to my eBook that is now published.Β  It's the only way to provide water, air and liquid propellant for use on the moon and interplanetary exploration.

IF there is enough water in the polar regions of the Moon.Β  We will have to be far more space-faring than we are now before thinking of going to Mars or the moons of Jupiter.

We need to set operations on and around the Moon first.
