And so at length Eomer and Aragorn met in the midst of the battle, and they leaned on their swords and looked on one another and were glad.

"Thus we meet again, though all the hosts of Mordor lay between us," said Aragorn. "Did I not say so at the Hornburg?"

"So you spoke," said Eomer. "But hope oft deceives, and I knew not then that you were a man foresighted. Yet twice blessed is help unlooked for, and never was a meeting of friends more joyful." And they clasped hand in hand. "Nor more timely," said Eomer. "You come none too soon, my friend. Much loss and sorrow has befallen us."

"Then let us avenge it, ere we speak of it!" said Aragorn, and they rode back to battle together.

Magnificient as the films are, it is sad that they don't have the time or narrative to incorporate the incredible bromance between Aragorn and Eomer from the books. Eomer and Aragorn get like three or four scenes together, and that's it, but in the books, they are bond-brothers who are super-hyped about the opportunity to kill orcs together. Eomer is just in awe of Aragorn's prowess and they're great pals.

Originally I wanted to make these two very much like their movie counterparts, but I gave up on that idea. For one, my various attempts at drawing actors have not gone well, and for two, it turns out that apparently Aragorn is incapable of growing a beard, because Numenoreans are half-elven and all. So I wanted to make that lore-accurate.

I'm not super-happy with this piece, but I have surgery on my arm tomorrrow and won't be able to work on it for a while, so if I don't post it now it's just going to sit around for weeks. So enjoy.
