We two kings of Swindon-born
One of green, the other blue-adorned
But where of our others, the ones whom we missed?
National Rail caught up and we're all really pissed.

Still an awesome angle to shoot these two locomotives in!

I actually revised it since I found out there were only three:

We two kings of Swindon-born
One of us green, the other blue-adorned
But where of our leader, number six-triple-o?
Well to the National Railway Museum you really need to go

Even better, I have a recording of the J88 himself reciting it! Still, it would be awesome for a triple-king lineup like the three A4's

wow, it's not everyday you get this shot. You were very lucky to get them both together. I have been to Didcot but that was a few years ago now.

Indeed, it was quite a sight. My favourite shot of the two however was when double-heading; taken from KEI's cab along the side of the tender...

I visited Didcot Railway Centre back in July, however when I showed face 6023 was AWL at the North Norfolk Railway for an extended period of running in. Disappointing, yes, but I do hope to see her soon.

It's worth catching up with her when you can; a powerful beast but most majestic. Spacious cab too!

BR Express Blue does actually suit really well, though I dare say some will disagree...!

Having fired Truro and 9466 (and some lesser non-GWR) I quite agree. Glad you like the pic; I managed to 'plate KEI and KEII on each of their respective first day's steaming in preservation - somewhat memorable...

Plate as in put the nameplates on them?

You lucky duck.

Plate as in footplate, ie cab them. Not quite as good as adding the nameplates (though I believe traditionally the regulator is the last bit), but still special to me.

Either way. Closest thing I'll get to GWR is in OO Scale.

Mind you that.

Well if you pop down there (or anywhere where either are) and chat to the crew, they're usually happy to let one have a nose in the cab.

ahahahaha, fantastic

Are they both under steam?

JD-Ripper In reply to PaxAeternum [2011-09-03 16:29:21 +0000 UTC]

Indeed they were; I was the very first person to get a footplate ride while they were double-heading.

Oh, since we last chatted one Welsh preserved line has declared an aim to build their extension in dual (broad) gauge...
