===============
My first tutorial in document form, hope it's helpful for anyone who's interested in trying out MyPaint.
This tutorial covers the basic functions of MyPaint, a free and open-source painting program similar to Paint Tool Sai or Corel Painter. I tried to cover everything in my basic workflow when using the program, including the user interface, shortcuts and my preferred brushes.
For resource links and more info about the program, please visit the MyPaint group here at deviantArt:
Created with MyPaint, the GIMP and LibreOffice Writer

I can't find the MAC version to download anywhere. :C
The only thing I found in the download section of the official site is a MacPort.

Haven't tested it myself, but the current Mac version seems to be experimental (unstable) according to the Github FAQ. Last I heard, the team is looking for those who might be able to help with coding version 1.2 for OS X.

It's awesome to stumble on a great artist that used open source software too!

I should upgrade to 1.1, it would be neat to be able to move layers. I would have mentioned the background configuration options to use other colors or paper-like textures instead of nuclear white. It's hard to find but very handy, the downside is that if you use textures the file size skyrockets.

Ah yes, I forgot to discuss the background option. Though I don't use it very often because like you said, it can add to the file size, which is something I try to minimize. I prefer to export works from MyPaint into Photoshop/GIMP to work on the background, layout and canvas size from there.

I recently started using MyPaint 1.2 and it seems the rotate doesn't work anymore. However, this doesn't bother me since I can make edits on any layer in an external application like Photoshop or GIMP.
