Here's my latest fan art of a character that has been my waifu when I was younger, AND it's my first picture of 2020. This is the Spring Sprite from Disney's Fantasia 2000.

Now, Fantasia, despite getting more appreciated over the decades, was going to be a continuing series, but it bombed hard at the box office on it's initial release. The Disney studio decided to scrap that idea because of the fact that most people probably weren't into classical music at the time, but the popularity of the movie grew bigger and bigger, and that's when the studio decided to make another Fantasia movie. And thus, Fantasia 2000 was born.

In my opinion, the movie itself is nicely executed, with some gorgeous-looking new segments, but it certainly doesn't hold a candle to the edge and grand scope of the original. And there might be some people who can agree that the single best thing in 2000 was the 'Firebird Suite' segment, directed by French twin artists Paul and Gaëtan Brizzi. It's a simple environmental fantasy story about an elegant sprite with powers that bring spring to landscapes, but when she accidentally wakes up the abominable Firebird, her work was destroyed by his fiery wrath, and SHE gets destroyed, too! Luckily, her companion, the Elk brings her back to life from the ashes, and she puts the land back to it's natural state. Nice story, isn't it?

As for how I feel about the Spring Sprite herself, I think she's quite an attractive character. The way she's designed and animated makes her one of the most fascinating creatures I've ever seen in media. Also, considering the fact that I just gushed over her for a little bit, I think she and Aisling from The Secret of Kells have to my personal favorite fairy characters.
