I haven't really seen much in the way of Ecthelion pics amidst all the Glorfindel pics...not taking anything away from Glorfindel, Ecthelion is the dude who finally takes out Gothmog, slayer of Feanor, Fingon, and countless others during Morgoth's reign of terror. From JRR Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion'

Thanks very much! I suppose I've been laboring under the delusion (and this goes back well before the Peter Jackson films) that the elves of old were largely blondes, with the occasional dark haired elf here and there but I guess I've got it all caddywompus! I appreciate your praise and bow to your Tolkien acumen

...Could it be Glorfindel vs the Balrog rather than Ecthelion? Cos the elf warrior here is golden-haired, and Glorfindel is remembered for being a balrog slayer too! It would fit perfectly.
I like your whip of flame, actually. And the warrior's flying leap pose!

Interesting interpretation of the Balrog. A couple of minor criticisms. The hand holding the axe looks a bit funky, as if 2 of the fingers are bulkier than the others. The whip at first glance looks more like a trail of fire. Needs better delineation.
The way the back plate on the right side intrudes but does not meet the front leaves Gothmog's side looking horribly exposed. Otherwise, a nice piece.

Thanks! I think the axe hand is foreshortened a bit, so that's why the fingers seem off. Also, I wanted the armor to be more of a suggestion than a complete suit of protection, as if Gothmog eschews armor because for so long he has been a dread on the battlefield; contemptuous arrogance, if you will. Thanks for the critique though!

Points noted, particularly about the arrogance. Hubris is usually a fatal flaw. You're quite welcome.
