Jeakilo — Wolves vs Non Wolves Guide

Description Edit2: I will do this edit for those that insist on picking on the title I originally chose for this guide.
I would love to educate on each wolf and non-wolf species, however that wasn't the point of this guide - I think many people are getting the wrong idea. I was hoping to entice some away from wolves, and hopefully help some correct anatomy mistakes they may make without even knowing they do so. Please do not take this as a tutorial on just wolves, because it clearly is not.
I take no responsibility for what happens after the viewing of this guide. I encourage viewers to research the species you are about to draw further than this little picture guide.

Aaaaand the wolf(and other!) guide I said I was going to do.
I hope to God that I got those breeds right or I'm going feel like such an idiot. Weirdly I know way more about individual dog breeds than I do about wolf breeds sooo yea. I didn't add the fox as a dog-like species since theres so many varied breeds within them. I know I'm missing a ton, but these are the main ones people tend to draw.

Jackel was added pretty much for my own use.
Now back to working on Marked/KC I'll do another dog one eventually.

[Edit]

As said on my dog guide, these images are NOT MINE. If anyone has a problem with these photos, please tell me so I can substitute them

Couple questions;
1. Why is this posted as a "wolf guide" if it includes wild dogs or other canids? (Dholes, coyotes, jackals)
Not talking about the image itself, I notice the "and other" part there. I meant the title of the deviation. People mostly find deviations by title, so why post it by something that doesn't include all of what it is?

2. Why are all the links in the artist comments called references? They're direct cut-outs from the originals; you didn't use them as a reference to draw or create something different.

3. I think it'd be a good idea if you post copyrights on it, even if you just say "all photographs (C) their origianl owners/creators". It's just a good idea.

Hey, sorry to come to her defense but as the person that requested she do this I suppose I should stand up for her.
It's mostly wolves. It's supposed to show a comparison for wolf artists. Wolf artists draw things like coyotes and dholes too but they don't make a differentiation between those species anatomically. So the audience intended for this are wolf-artists. Besides that's what the keyword section is for. The title isn't big enough to list off everything.

ZSW13 In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-03-03 03:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Stand up for her?! I'm not attacking her or insulting her, what do you have to stand up against? Friendly advice? This is why I hate dA and why I stay on Fanart Central more often, no matter what you say commenting on someone's deviation, their friends have to come in and "defend" them; even if you're trying to help out.

I didn't say list off everything, I asked why she didn't name the deviation what the file name is, because somebody, like me, could be looking for something other than wolves.

Neither jeakilo or myself take offense easily. It just seemed like you were nit-picking her about her wording of things for the sake of picking at things If you didn't mean any offense by it then I'm sorry, I didn't mean to start something with someone who didn't mean any harm.

Hopefully she put the coyote, dhole, etc in the keywords o3o

ZSW13 In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-03-03 03:31:19 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't trying to be offensive. I'm not nit-picking, I was trying to help out. Apparently no matter what you do here, no matter who you do it to, you're trolling, being an asshole, trying to tell them what to do, or nit-picking.

Eh, I've put tons of keywords in something before, including a few that had nothing to do with the deviation but seemed as though people typed it in a lot (the only time I've done it, was an experiment) and not a single comment, view or favourite went through. Bleh. Plus, if someone sees it as "Wolf Guide" they'll think it's for wolves. Maybe she could name it "Wolf and others Guide". That'd fit, wouldn't deter wolf artists, would drag in non-wolf but other canine/canid artists, and wouldn't degrade anything. Eh?

AddictionHalfWay In reply to ZSW13 [2010-03-03 04:20:01 +0000 UTC]

It's a vicious cycle really. Because a lot of people do troll that more people become defensive over things that are not meant to be hurtful.

I suppose xD I don't know if I could be convinced from that title but I suppose there are other choices for titling than just Wolf Guide.

Yeah, everyone here is paranoid or uptight and I hate this place. Either everyone thinks that they're being attacked by trolls or think that no matter what the comment is, the commenter is trolling, they're right and their art is awesome no matter what anyone says, and blocks the commenter.
Even if they're saying they like it.

Not meaning to but in, but I see comments like this a lot and just wondering a few things.. a. why repeat something when you've gotten your point across once already? b. yes people may search by titles that they remember but most artists search using key words and go about that way so even if she put "wolf guide" in the title, she may have put "coyote" in the key word box and so someone typing "wolf guide" and someone else typing "coyote" could find the same pictures regardless of title. c. if you hate this place so much, why keep coming back? just wondering.

ZSW13 In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2010-03-03 23:56:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, sort of. I switched over to FAC 4 days ago (after a 2 year absence; - as long as I've been on dA, 2 years) and I have not seen one single negative comment, nobody is posting sprites or sprite comics or something that doesn't specifically belong to them, and I don't get "thanks for the fav!" messages all day - so far I've gotten people saying hello to me and being friendly. There's even a slang word for how much crap is on dA - drAma.

I only check dA once in a while now, maybe 2-3 times a day compared to my normally constantly being on FAC (if I have nothing else to do besides be on my computer anyway).

Jeakilo In reply to ZSW13 [2010-03-03 02:28:50 +0000 UTC]

Considering 3/4's of the image are wolves, I figured it was good enough to just call it wolf, since that is probably what most of the people using it will be looking at. I'm pretty sure those clicking, expecting a full wolf guide won't be terribly disappointed to see the Dhole, Jackel, and Coyote on there. "Wolf, Dhole, Jackel, and Coyote" guide wouldn't fit as a title, and just titling it a generic "Wild canine guide" would be incorrect seeing as I haven't even begun to touch on all the wild breeds. The goal of this was to show the comparison of wolves versus some other wild breeds.

I'm posting them -as- references for others, in a lined-up version so that artists can see even the subtle differences between the breeds.
I am not in any way claiming the photos to be mine nor am I trying to insinuate that they ware mine - I apologize if it seemed that way by not saying they weren't? I just assumed that linking them would pretty much tell the viewer that I got the photos from another source.

I'm not attacking you, for one thing.

You coulda named the deviation guide what you named it on the actual file.

You coulda specified that. Also, it doesn't really matter if you link back, someone who owns one could be an asshole and sue you for no reason at all. It's happened. I'm just trying to give you a friendly warning about it.
