Model draped in a sheer curtain panel. Nikon D80 + Tokina 11-16mm. 2 second exposure on manual mode. Triggered the shutter then manually flashed using the SB-600 from behind the model, bouncing the flash against the wall behind the model. Then allowed the flash to dissipate for the remaining exposure creating the silhouette.
I normally hate explaining concepts but I think this one's a bit too abstruse (or poorly conceptualized) to understand easily. And it's a good concept/topic worthy of discussion or at least a passing thought.
This image is about death and the leap of faith that we face upon our deathbeds either to accept some form of a God (or Gods) or deny it/him/her (or them). It takes faith to absolutely accept the existence of a God (or Gods). But it also takes faith to absolutely deny said God (or Gods). So as we lie dying, as we travel like jets breaking the sound barrier towards our inevitable deaths, we must choose. Else, our lack of faith may cause us to miss out on 'the better story.'
PS: happy 12/12/12

I was caught off-guard when I stumbled upon this picture. Just stunning. I'd like to go blind while looking at this kind of beauty.

Stunning concept and execution. Very thought provoking subject matter as well. Congratulations on such a lovely shot (even if your just messing around with new techniques).

Wow, what an eerie concept, I love it. Some Evenesence music would go great with this. Kudos.

I find the image all the more beautiful for the explanation of the concept that goes with it. It explains the rotation perfectly (a person in repose, near death) and lends it more than simply an aesthetic value.

whilst we lay dying I'm absolutely sure we think (if we think altogether) neither if god/s exist or not - but how we could be freed from the pain of dying (although some of near-death reports suggest heavely peace etc. - but those people neither were dead nor dying (but very close to that state).

My first thought oddly before reading your description box was that it was the beginning of life - like breaking through the sac before being born (even though the model is an adult, rather then an infant). Funny how it's an appropriate image for death too, because you're shaking off the veil of mortality?
Either way - when you mention the person as a rocket, wouldn't the image be upright? Though, the more I thought about it, I think the flipped version is much better.
Really nice concept imo - I haven't seen something like this before.

Great interpretation
Hum, for some reason when I think about anything traveling across the sky, I think horizontally haha. But you're right; perhaps jets would be a better analogy
