I've wanted to try this ever since I saw ~kedralynn 's work I don't really like the long landscape composition but I wanted to crop out my face above and table below I'll probably try it again later

Like the window piece, I feel like this hearkens back to an earlier era, except with modern fashion.. only this time stylized Chinese art rather than (I think) French oils.

i love the parasoul (? lol, no idea how to spell that) it's very brightly colored and has a sort of Asian theme to it, in my opinion. it's a beautiful picture.

I like the concept -but- I don't like this particular colour of the background and over-saturated skin tone.

I hope that you find some time to re-do it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JeanFan In reply to WSmieszek [2010-01-14 15:01:18 +0000 UTC]

The skin was originally black. I think it just looks over-saturated due to the color balancing. What background color would you have preferred? It'd have to be some bright white-ish color unless I try another technique

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WSmieszek In reply to JeanFan [2010-01-14 15:06:08 +0000 UTC]

The background colour is probably my own preference anyway. If you do it white, the umbrella won't be visible enough so I guess this background it is...

About the skin... hmm... wouldn't you want to just leave it all black for a nice silhouette style?

i really like it. i think it looks like a pretty lady waiting for someone-- she's holding her parasol between folded hands. so that might look like she's impatient.

but still. it's impatience in all eloquence.

Thanks

"impatience in all eloquence" - very lyrical; mind if I use it for the title?

PavSys [2010-01-14 01:48:55 +0000 UTC]

The lighting is nice. Love the neck line. The back of the garment is a little bunched up which interrupts the flow of lines. If that's a Kimono I can understand. If it's something else it should be tightened up. The landscape view looks good. I like that style of framing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JeanFan In reply to PavSys [2010-01-14 02:52:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes it's a Kimono I might retry it with something more form fitting Thanks

Nice!, a question, do you find Gimp, a really better option than Photoshop?, I mean I would like to update my PS, but, is too expensive, so, I was thinking download Gimp, any recomendation??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JeanFan In reply to Marvtorrez [2010-01-13 22:04:05 +0000 UTC]

I find GIMP to be an economical alternative. I think any program can be good (for photo editing) as long as you know how to use it.

I used to use Ulead PhotoImpact5, a $5 photo editing program, which I liked a lot. But it doesn't run on Vista so I had to change to GIMP. I've only tried Photoshop a few times and have found it not that much better than PhotoImpact or GIMP for basic photo post editing.

If you heavily edit your photos (complete body reshaping) or do painting, PS is most likely better. Otherwise, why not save money and go with GIMP

WSmieszek In reply to JeanFan [2010-01-14 10:33:50 +0000 UTC]

Well... I guess so, but if you have a huuuge student discount and can get latest Creative Suite for something shy of $100 US... I couldn't stop myself from buying

Love HK!

I really like it , i have one small (subjective) remark.
I find the crop a bit distracting. The lip looks a little strange to me, maybe crop it of or crop less (showing more lip for example)

just a suggestion

for the rest i totally love it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JeanFan In reply to BloomingLotus [2010-01-14 01:38:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if I keep looking at it I guess I can see your point But if I crop any more it'll be even a longer landscape composition . My mouth was open a bit so I though it looked weird if I cropped it less

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BloomingLotus In reply to JeanFan [2010-01-14 12:33:55 +0000 UTC]

maybe you can show more of the mouth?
