Description English version of my Custom Blind-Bags Tutorial.
Sorry, for eventual mistakes in translation, bad grammar, or vocabulary (since some of these things had a names I wasn't familiar with), but it was really rushed.

Many of You asked me, how I customize my pony figures. Mainly my Polish friends. So I did a long-ass tutorial explaining it step by step. I tried to add a little variety with quick hand-drawn sketches colored on the computer, so the read will be less... boring I hope it would help some of You, to make Your own custom blind-bag ponies ^_^

Also, for a other tutorial, go here:
[link]
I was learning from it, and thou I actually do my stuff differently in several places, it's a very good read, much better than mine actually

Also, here is a link to all blind-bags numbers, mentioned in the tutorial itself:

THIS IS REALLY AWEOME THANK SO MUCH I SPENT HOURS LOOKING FOR A GOOD TUTORIAL LIKE THIS!!

two questions:
1. How would I successfully add a merpony tail to them that stays on, would I wait for sculpey to dry then glue the tail on the pony?
2. Is there a after-spray to use on the ponies AFTER they are painted?

Thank You, I'm really glad it could be of use :3
As for Your questions:

1 - This is one way to do it, but the tail would be a quite long thing, and the area where it's glued on would be quite small, so I'm a bit concerned if it'll hold up. Personally, I would try to find a metal wire. Thin, yet sturdy enough that You can shape it by hand, but it won't bend when covered in clay. Then heat it up, stick it as far as You can in this pony, and sculpt the tail around it.
2 - Yeah, depending on the paints You're using it might be a good idea to cover them in something afterwards. Some paints I was using stayed a bit sticky even months after painting. I don't know much about it, to be honest but there are varnishes for things like that, but I don't think I ever saw one in a spray form, only in bottles.

Anyway, I hope it will help, and I wish You luck, and fun remodeling Your ponies

Ah thanks! How would i go about sticking the wire in and how much wire? I have a ton of blind bag ponies and the acrylic paint but ive never done anything like this befofe only watched tutorials.

And oh okay! Ive seen a gloss varnish i can use

I would put in as much as I could. At least 1/3 of the wire should be in the pony (the remaining 2/3 being the tail itself). I would heat it up on the stove, and just slowly put it inside he pony. Unless the wire would be too thin to do it (because it would bend), in that case I would make a hole with a red-hot nail, and insert wire with a tip covered in glue, to secure it.
But I never tried it myself, so since You have a lot of them, I would make a test first XD

Would rustoleum plastic safe spray paint be okay to paint over on customs? Someone told me the chemical reaction may not work with the acrylics and spray paint.

I'm curious to know why it's better to start with the lighter coloured paint and then use the dark colours? Not that I'm doubting you, just that I assumed it would be easier to paint over light. Great tutorial by the way. I like the way you made Chrysalis' legs. ^^

Well, I'm using white primer, so You can't go much lighter then that However I saw some people, that actually create a little shading this way, by putting lighter colors, and then additional layer of darker ones. That... looks actually surprisingly good, but I was doing it in pretty amateur way

And thank You

How would you paint neon bright Wave 8 Cadance? same steps?

JedielDaniel In reply to SnowCas [2014-05-13 19:46:14 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... good question.
To be honest I never had these wave 8 neon ones in hands, so I'm not sure if it's the same material... buuut. all colors will be painted on the primer anyway, so if it sticks, then I would probably do it exactly like I did all of them

is it just me.....or are most of the good traditional artists using Koh-i-nor stuff??

...
Actually, You might be right... "Koh-i-Noor", and "Faber Castell" are really well know from the quality, even thou they're stuff tend to be quite expensive. So yeah, when it comes to better materials, I'm usually looking for their stuff

I use only koh-i-noor...cus you can find it mostly everywhere here in Czech Republic...but yeah it IS expensive....
