Description Hey guys, Jediah here with a new deviation for you guys. This time it's of a genetically engineered, mutant mosquito in both larval and adult form.
Now you maybe asking, why didn't I chose to draw a mosquito, let alone a mutated, genetically modified one? Well it was because I was inspired by
this story I wrote for my English class in college (General Composition to be more exact). We were given this assignment where we write a story based on
a pre-written prompt, and after we finish writing our half, we pass the paper to the next person in the class and they have to continue the story from where you
left off.

It was pretty unique assignment I must say. All of my pieces had monsters, genetically modified/engineered humans or mutants, and one of them featured
mosquitoes. Specifically mosquitoes genetically modified using CRISPR technology, which is a recent and very efficient gene editing tool that was derived from the immune
system of bacteria.

And because these mosquitoes were altered with CRISPR, they were able to grow much larger, to about 8 inches long and thus were able to suck out
greater quantities of blood than normal mosquitoes, to the point of nearly sucking their victims dry of blood. But that's not all, after the mosquitoes have had their full
of blood, their victim falls unconscious or dies, and a few hours later, they awaken as either zombies that only drink blood (so basically, vampire zombies) or they turn into
mutated humanoid creatures that have these needle-like spikes on their hands that suck the blood out of people or animals.

And the reason why would turn into these, is because the mosquitoes—while sucking the victim's blood—regurgitates a virus that was also created using CRISPR and meant
for use as a bio-weapon, into the blood stream of the victim. Much like how they do with other viruses and diseases like West Nile, Malaria, and Zika.

As for the larvae of these mutant CRISPR mosquitoes, I was thinking that they would be of course larger than normal ones, probably 12-inches or 10 (something like that)
and they would be more active hunters, possessing both pincers and sharp mandibles. And given how mosquitoes tend to lay a dozen or so eggs at a time, these CRISPR
edited mosquito larvae would probably be pack hunters, and they would actually consume the flesh of a given victim rather than just the blood like the adults.

I really hope this drawing conveys some of this, because when I was drawing the adult, it ended up looking more like a normal mosquito rather than a genetically modified one.
It was only when I started drawing the larva that I started adding details to show the viewer that this isn't a normal mosquito, but a genetically modified one. Like I added the pincers
to the larva, I made the jaw of the larva look more like mandibles and I also gave the adult some mandibles. I could, and I probably will return to this design at some point and
redesign some aspects to really make it look like a mutated mosquito created through gene editing, because I do have this idea to create a story that is about CRISPR and gene editing,
and these mutant mosquitoes would be a part of it some way.

Thanks , and it was pretty fun. The prompt we were given as about a group of friends going to a concert out of town together,
and I started my paper with one of the friends transforming into a horrific fresh-eating monstrosity after he was infected by a mutagenic virus
that is sexually transmitted (so basically, the worst STD you could ever imagine).

no problem, well you differently spiced the story up. the horror

Yeah, and this mutagenic STD idea is something I've been thinking about for quite a while and
I was thinking of using in the sequel to the CRISPR movie I have in mind.
