Description
This is my new drawing of Elric, based upon the 1980 original from the Melnibonean chapter of Deities and Demigods for AD&D (TSR Hobbies, 1980 edition). This re-creation was done as a commission for Aaron de Orive.Check out my latest Kickstarter project to re-create my old TSR art: the Nonhuman Deities and Demigods! www.kickstarter.com/projects/jβ¦
At the end of each of these projects, I always wind up with a few prints left over due to printer overruns. I also still have most of the new originals. For me the pictures you did in the Deities & Demigods, got me into drawing. I never mastered your style, but it's the reason I still own that book today. Thanks for revisiting these and making me feel like a teenager again.

I always remember Elric as having straight hair and Stormbringer as being a two-hander. But maybe Im my memory is being influenced by the old book covers. Its been so long since Ive read them.
I like it though, you have his body just like I imagined it.

I had a chance to buy a copy of Deities and Demigods with the Melnibonean and other chapters that were removed in later editions, and I've been kicking myself ever since for not grabbing it.Β It's a real treat to see drawings these again.

Any time Elric UNsheaths that sword, it resists being resheathed until it has devoured -DESTROYED- a soul ! It torments Elric by choosing his friends ! Amirite ?
I thought my Clone-Catspaw-Copycat-Dupli-kate- Dust Bunny could send a doop after it, but I realized that the part of her soul that animates and motivates the doop would be destroyed, and her power, minimal as it is, would be reduced permanently. Besides Stormbringer would app. not like a "lite" meal.

I have that book.
I was just reading it this morning.
It's even noted for its chapter on the Cthulhu Mythos, omitted from subsequent editions due to objections from Arkham House.

One of the best ever Elric drawings. I loved this in the original Deities book for D&D.

People are always asking me if I still have any of the original artwork from my TSR days. The answer is no. TSR considered it work for hire, and kept it. One day (so I'm told) it all got thrown in a dumpster.
Over the years, a few people have contracted me to re-create some of those pieces. So I've had an idea. What if I set up a Kickstarter project, where I set out to re-create my old TSR artwork? People who donate a certain amount would get signed prints, and those who donated a lot would get to own the originals. I'd keep the publishing rights, and make the whole collection available as a book.
Anyway, there's the idea. If there's enough interest, I'll do it!

Would love to see that! I imagine you could up the stakes by including other D&D artists from the time period. I'm sure people would be really interested in a book that includes work from Dee, Willingham, Otus, etc. At the very least, I hope you're able to do a book. Please post a link to your kickstarter project if you decide to.

That would be kewl, I figured the art was work for hire, its a shame though that when the products it was used on go OOP that you didnt have the option to buy it back or some such. Do you even have any of the sketches or scraps from the work then? A sketch book of that era work would likely go over well.
