Description
A second commission over the uber-talented Kevin McCoy.This one presented a challenge after I completed the background; reason? I hated it. I didn't like what I had done; it was loose, it was messy, and it deserved a little more attention than it got.
So, what I did here was kept the Nightcrawler from the original page (cuz I think it turned out ok), and redid the background on another page. Both were scanned into Photoshop, add a layer, put them together, and here's the result.
Let me know if it turned out okay. The commissioner liked it, so that's a plus

Your ingking work always amaze me man, I wonder what tools did you use for all of you page. I ink my own page, I always use drawing pen to ink and the result definitely is not as good as yours, any suggestions?

Thanks man.
Tools used: Pigma Micron pens 0.05 & 0.2; #2 brush with Super Black India Ink and some Daler Rowney FW White Acrylic Artists Ink for splatter.
Suggestions: the biggest one for me, is KNOW your tools. Have a good understanding of how to achieve different lines from different sized pens or brushes. For me, having this understanding of how to achieve lines, I know that if I break the filament on my 0.05 pen, it gives me a line similar to that of a nib, where I can adjust the thick & thin in midstroke. Having that understanding, I know how to get what I want. The same applies to ALL the tools you use.
The second biggest, is understanding what each line is there for, and what it is suppose to achieve. Anyone can 'ink' a piece of artwork by going over it with a pen/brush etc., but few understand exactly how to lay a line down in order to compliment the lineart; make the piece better, not worse.
If you want to follow along, check out my new group The-Inkwell , where we'll be discussing ALL of these topics for all to learn & educate on.
And absolute worst case scenario, I'd be happy to ink over your pencils
Cheers,
J
