Good brushwork and lighting, there's an area around the standing model that appears sorta "glowy" though, if you do the same sort of thing with another image, attempt to lower the area with that effect so that there's no lighting difference between her skin/outfit/hair and the rest of the background. If you used a lighting filter to accomplish the darkness, just be careful in how much of it you erase during editting.

It's going to be the cover of a story I am writing. Basically, the girl with the gun to her head (Amber) testified against the ghost (Shannon) and had her put to death. Sort of a pay back issue.

Try [link] they have some nice basics. I say start off learning how to make signatures like what you see on forums. Don't try to make really hard ones, start off small and work your way up.
