Now with lyrics and colors!

Also, the DA Category "Traditional Art > Mixed Media > Macabre & Horror" does not exist. This disappoints me.

Inspired by these unfinished lyrics:

"Nocturnal whispers infect the grey
Contorting sympathetic whispers into defiant screams
Nocturnal promises engulf the red
Your heart belongs to him
The covenant is made, the blood is drawn, and from beyond he steps into existence
A body comprised of excrescences and tentacles
Distended abscesses part to reveal emerald eyes that gaze into eternity
Repellent, vomitous, a black and boiled hand extends as you send unrivaled screams into the void
Your mind and your mouth are agape in trepidation
Locked in the sulfurous glare of the humanoid cephalopod
A truly Lovecraftian sight for the ages
Understanding reveals itself in the cold callus embrace of dead skin
Your heart belongs to him
The beast and the bride
You have become the monstrosity's paramour"

-The Beast and The Bride, by Jeff Stokely (me)

Also inspired by this awesome quote:

"Strike your name from the book of life,
Turn your back on the light of day,
And walk in the shadows with me"

-Dialogue from Hellboy by Mike Mignola

And of course, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft

Your coloring is on par with your lines, man. Every time you color something, it makes me want to see more of your stuff colored. It's strange for me because I usually prefer black and white art work. The colors you use are unexpected, but seem to make perfect sense. It's like everyone else is coloring wrong. Anyway, great work, three thumbs up!

Wow man, thanks a lot! I really don't get a lot of comments regarding my colors, but I guess you've seen more of my b&w vs. color than most people. I feel like every time I color its an experiment no matter what. There's a basic look Im going for and it ALWAYS ends up close, but different. This is not exception. Though I do like how it turned out. I definitely want to do more with color as far as stand alone illustration. Like most things, I think it's just something I need to practice at to get the hang of.

Dear DA, Please add the category of "Traditional Art > Mixed Media > Macabre & Horror" and make this the number one entry. Great job as always.

Really cool image, the play on the lyrics is great. And the quality of the colours is top notch stuff, nice colour theory and use of textures. It's got that pastel look to it, which suits very well indeed.

Thanks a lot man! I was really trying to go for a smaller desaturated palette, I think it was a good learning experience.

This kinda reminds me of when the demon boar tried to consume Sai and Ashitaka tried to save her, ya know, in Princess Mononoke ^^ Awesome pic ^^

Ha thanks! Someone said the same thing about the inked version when I posted it. Princess Mononoke is my all time favorite Ghibli film so it's quite a compliment

I don't recall very well, but is this where Hellboy has the vision of his father reclaiming his witch mother on her deathbed? I really love Hellboy. I have not read comics in over a decade, yet I still come back to Mignola for the art and the writing equally.
Great piece here! I'm a huge fan of darker style art. This is beautiful line work reminiscent of the finer Kaluta, Wrightson 70's era work! Amazing!

Thanks man! Yeah it's inspired by that scene. Although, not visually inspired by it, just the event of a woman selling her soul. This is my take on it
